Another tutorial! I wanted to do a hair one for a while actually, haha.
ADDITIONAL NOTES:
- As stated before this tutorial doesn’t cover natural black hair that much–this is just because I don’t have experience with it, and can’t really teach it properly. I’ve seen these two tutorials by tumblr user misselaney circulating on my dash before, however, and these are much more comprehensive than I’d ever get, so I’d advise checking these out:
- NATURAL BLACK HAIR
- DREADLOCS
- My focus is heavily on painting, I didn’t want to bog this down too much so that’s why. With the actual painting step-by-step, just let the sketch part naturally flow into lineart and refine it from there; my personal process tends to mimic how i paint even when I’m not trying to ~paint~.
- Overlay and Additon layers are totally optional–depending on what you want to do with hair you can really just use a bright color to shade; depends on what the hair you’re drawing is doing, really. The model I used for the painting tutorial, a psg fc of mine, Armsocks–has really shiny, glittery hair, so using overlay and addition layers makes sense for what his hair is doing. (obviously it doesn’t do that on-model! I actually just use an excessive amounts of hard highlights in that style. The same hair can be depicted wildly differently depending on the model’s parameters!)
- There’s a lot of other things on top of this such as color theory, lighting observation, etc etc that apply here that i didn’t get in-depth with–once again, life referencing is your friend! (It can sort of be hard to try and divide hair into sections irl though trying to translate that is a good exercise in and of itself!)
- Also good is to look at media you like and see how hair’s handled there too–honestly, i was super intimidated with working with short hair for a while until I had to deal with Noiz’ hair in fanwork, lmao. Some styles deal with hair in different ways and these can offer new interpretive insights for your own work! (My methods for drawing hair are heavily influenced by Kill la Kill, Panty and Stocking, Ava’s Demon and the Dark Science Dresden Codak comics, for refrence)

Well this is my piece for @kh-worldsconnected!
I’m honestly not creative enough to come up with a deep and meaningful piece to do with the time theme so I just went with the destiny trio interacting with their younger selves.
