Per Mertesacker ends international career

After Philipp Lahm and Miroslav Klose, Per Mertesacker also announced that he will resign from his position in the national team. The world cup champion explained his decision in an interview with Süddeutsche Zeitung which will be featured in tomorrow’s edition of the daily newspaper. 

According to the paper, Per said: “After ten years, I above all wanted to decide for myself when the end of this chapter would come.” The article further states that Per wants to focus on the Premier League in the future: “I want to win the title with Arsenal and maybe even attack in the Champions League.” Per described the tournament in Brazil as the golden conclusion of his career in the national team.

Mertesacker predicts a golden future for the national team: “We’re as well-staffed as never before.” He himself played 103 games for the national team and scored 4 goals.

Happy 30th Birthday, lieber Basti.

I was 14 years old when I first saw Basti playing. WC 2006. Since the very first match I became fan of the German NT. At the end of that WC I was a big fan of Bastian.

Now I am 22 years old and he is 30. Time goes by so fast. It is incredible. All these years being a fan of him and it is not quite easy to express all my love for this man, cause to be honest there are no simple words to do so.

Personally, I am so proud of him, of everything he has done and has achieve with the years. He is a type of player that won’t be forgotten. He is the fucking BOSS, you know. I am proud that I have seen how much he has progressed through the years. There is one cup left for him to have it all: the Euro. Whether he wins it or not, it doesn’t matter. He has already won the heart of many bayern, german and football fans around the world.

I wish him all the the best, and don’t ever retire, Bastian, because I will miss you so much.
