“I think I’ve always known my vulnerability is my superpower; it’s not something that makes me weak. I always try to share that with women. I think so many women are confused. They’re like, ‘Don’t cry in front of a man.’ I’m like, ‘Fuck that!’ I’ll cry in front of them, but I’ll also go kicking and screaming. It’s part of us and it’s part of the human condition.” - Mariska Hargitay for Variety, May 2024

"Well actually Chris and I designed it together. We talked about him doing a necklace for me and I wanted it to be a compass and I have a relationship with the designer and we had this idea and I wanted Chris's impact because he's so thoughtful and specific and does such a deep dive on things like this that matter and I wanted it to mean as much to him as it meant to me." — Mariska Hargitay

According to Nancy Forner, former editor for SVU, this scene was originally written that Dr. Rebecca Hendrix asked Olivia whether she had romantic feelings for Stabler, which actually aired in the promo for the episode.  The episode aired with different dialogue, but they kept Olivia’s original response to the question.

"I wanna find a character that... That's difficult to... to, on the surface, understand. I want... I want to take the person, and figure out why are they like this. Were they born, or were they made? And then that can run the gamut from the more notorious to the... Just anyone."

“I tend to narrate a life I’m reluctant to live. My experience was always very intense, and my way of protecting myself against it was to verbalize it somehow, to put it into wacky, askew prose. Mike Nichols says it’s a twitch that some of us are lucky enough to be able to turn it into a talent—if it’s an amusing twitch.” — Carrie Fisher
