I wish Tumblr would learn that you don't have to trash older, less explicitly gay works when something newer with more textual, explicit rep comes along.

how many creators watched explicitly gay stories be toned down in adaptation. how many got away with as much as they could get away with at the time and pushed the door open a little wider so a new thing could be even more open.

have a little respect and celebrate what we've achieved instead of dump on older works for not being as perfect as you'd like them to be

lol this reminds me of this Mongolian dude, Bao Xishun, was like, a herdsman, got recognized for being one of the tallest people anywhere, real tall and skinny guy. Anyway, one day there’s these two dolphins dying from plastic shards in their stomachs, and what you do about that is reach your arm down there and remove them, but nobody’s arms could reach. So somebody goes “hey, I heard about this guy, arms probably long enough” 

and that’s how this dude was was herding livestock in the middle of Mongolia one day and this helicopter lands and some people run out to him like “sir, we need you to get in this helicopter and come with us right away,” and they fly him in to the aquarium and they’re like, “cool, now just... reach down the throats of these two dolphins, you’re the only one who can save their lives.”

and he did. The dolphins lived. And they flew Bao Xishun back to his herd. What a fucking weird ass day that dude had, right?

I hope Bao Xishun realizes that he is a modern day folk hero.

the man, the myth, the legend

adding on to this that all my short kings need to understand that if you want to work in construction/landscaping/etc you are so fucking valuable. You know why? because some giant-ass cis man can't get up on the eaves of a broken roof safely to do repairs. He can't get down in a clean septic tank to check the seals before they bury it. Small hands are useful for fixing fucking everything. Masonry? shit, y'all are made for it. Farming and animal husbandry? the animals spook way less. You have an incredible advantage.

I skipped my senior year of HS and was hired to do exactly this shit as a 5' tall 120lb human bc my boss was fucking practical and y'all...best year of my life.

LIVE ACTION PRACTICAL EFFECTS TABAXI

I recently watched this and was blown away by this entire scene. This was a one off pair of characters with no names and no lines. They exist entirely to demonstrate the paladin being a Good Person by saving a baby. After he does this, he goes and gives money to a beggar - who is a dragonborn. He is one of two dragonborn in the film, and neither one needs to be a dragonborn. It would have been so easy to make the tabaxi and dragonborn characters humans, or slap some ears on them to make them elves, and they didn’t. They really went out of their way, building practical effects for the tabaxi and dragonborn when they didn’t need to… this is a movie that loves its source material and it also loves being a movie. People working on this movie cared.

I really missed that.

#and the birdman#don’t forget the birdman YES! AND the birdman! Now the birdman couldn’t be human because Plot Reasons demanded he have wings, but he was also almost entirely practical effects!

Please watch the movie if you haven’t! It’s so good, and made with so much love, you can see it in all the attention to detail and the use of practical effects.
