Doctor Mechanic: Flowers

Raven threw the toaster down on her bed and sighed. She needed to find a way to get ahold of Abby’s number. Or you know what, fuck it. I’ll just go to her house.

Raven grabbed the leather jacket off of her desk chair and headed to the front door.

“Headed somewhere?” Octavia peeked her head around the corner, stuffing popcorn into her mouth.

“Yeah.” Raven grabbed her car keys out of the bucket by the door. “I’m asking her out O. Tell Clarke to call me next time you see her. I want her to know ASAP that I asked her Mom out.”

Octavia nodded, her mouth full of popcorn. She watched leather retreat out the door and shrugged, heading back to the TV.

Abby looked at the clock on her oven and sighed. Only about 15 minutes left and her frozen food would be doone. Normally she would cook her own dinner but she was too exhausted from the recent surge in emergency surgeries.

She briefly closed her eyes and opened them to the sound of a car door closing. She waited for a few minutes before peeking out the window in the hall the overlooked her driveway. A blue Hyundai Elantra was parked there, the driver out of view from the window. She smiled to herself knowing whose car that was.  

The doorbell rang and even though she was expecting it, it still caused her to jump. She quickly headed to the front door and opened it. Before her was a very disheveled Raven. Her jacket hung perfectly, the tank top she was wearing leaving almost nothing to imagination. She glanced at the brace and then looked up into Raven’s eyes. The younger woman was holding a bouquet of Red roses that had some babies breath and some lillies in it.

“I know this isn’t…normal?” Raven shrugged and sighed. “Look I just. I wanna…” She paused looking down. “I wanna take you out. If you want too. I can’t ignore this anymore Abby.” She rushed out, finally looking up into the eyes of the older woman.

Abby smiled and reached her hand out to the bouquet of flowers. Raven handed them over and Abby sniffed them.

“Where do you wanna go Raven?” Abby ushered the woman inside. Raven paused, running her fingers through her hair.

“I didn’t…I didn’t think that far ahead. I thought you were going to close the door in my face.” Raven toyed with the ends of the jacket sleeves. Abby cupped Raven’s cheek, forcing her to meet Abby’s eyes. She rubbed her thumb along the skin of Raven’s cheek.

“I would never do that Raven.” She whispered softly. Just as quickly as she was touching Raven, she was moving further into the house and towards the kitchen. “I had frozen food in the oven but going out with you sounds like a better way to spend the evening.” She clicked the oven off and turned to face Raven, winking. “I know a casual place we could go to. Let me go get changed.”

Raven watched her bounce out of the kitchen and up the stairs, a smile creeping up her face.

Doctor Mechanic Week Prompt Voting | July 17 - July 23

Prompt suggestions are now officially closed, and prompt voting has begun! Voting will be open until July 23. You may vote for up to seven prompts by selecting your choices on this poll. If you submitted suggestions, you may vote, and you may vote for your own suggestion(s).

Below are the prompts that have been suggested. Some suggestions were excluded if they didn’t fit the very broad theme of Alternate Universes (which I did take very liberally, for reference), were extremely specific, or were potentially harmful. All other suggestions were included, but I did combine a few that were pretty similar. That being said, there is still quite a bit of overlap, so when our prompts are chosen I will do my best to phrase the winning prompt as inclusively as possible to maximize our ranges.

This is it! My very first, original novel is available for purchase right now, this very second on the internet right here. Eventually it will be up with all of your favorite book sellers like Amazon, iBooks, and Barnes and Noble, but for now it’s only on Lulu. Also, as soon as I can afford it, paperbacks will go into production.

And I suppose you want to know something about this book with the wicked cool cover art: A bomb has dropped on Washington DC, leaving behind historical ruins and a sinister virus. Ordinary citizens have been turned into flesh starved monsters. Kate was out of town when the bombs fell, but her daughter and husband were not so lucky. Despite her husband’s name on the ever growing list of casualties, Kate knows that her daughter is still alive. She can feel it. 

Autumn barely escaped the infection that swallowed her hometown. Along with her best friend, Collins, they have taken to the sea. But dwindling supplies force them toward the shore where they realize DC isn’t exactly how they pictured it.

Sound good? Did I mention that it’s part of a series? The District is Book #1 in my yet to be named five book series. There will be adventure, romance, probably more queer ladies than is statistically probable, some questionably accurate science, tattoed truck drivers, and secret societies.

Doctor Mechanic Week  Event Dates  Chosen & Theme Voting | July 3 - July 9

Event Dates have been chosen and by majority vote, the first Doctor Mechanic Week will take place August 14 through August 20. With the event dates in mind, it’s time to start voting for the theme!

Theme suggestions are officially closed, and theme voting has begun! Starting now, July 3, until July 9, vote for top 3 favorite themes out of the themes suggested. Below the cut are the themes (with a description as well as examples of prompts from the theme) and other important information about voting.

Voting is open to everyone, but please only vote once. You can vote for your top three themes, but keep in mind that only one can win; you are voting for theme, not prompt. This means we will need to break the winning theme down into 7 smaller prompts. Once our theme is chosen, We will open the ask and submission boxes for prompt suggestions, and any prompts fitting the chosen theme can be submitted.

Please note, you may not see your suggestion exactly as you sent it; there were a number of very similar suggestions or very specific suggestions that we combined to make the most simple and clean list possible.
