You Can’t Arrest a Jellyfish: Why the Dual Timeline Theory gets more plausible by the minute
Two timelines running at once – John as Sherlock’s “Invisible magic friend” and one as reality. Read it here.
A reference to “The Adventure of the Lion’s Mane” is made near the beginning of the episode. John says “you can’t arrest a jellyfish” – obviously the jellyfish being the murderer in that Holmes story. However, that story is one of the few where Sherlock Holmes is the narrator and John Watson does not appear at all. The moment it is referenced in The Six Thatchers is when Mary goes into labor. This marks the moment the dual story lines split: Including this moment, whenever we see John with Sherlock, one or both is not actually there. John does not see Sherlock again until the Aquarium scene or later.
We are watching part-truth, part unreliable-narrator. Sherlock doesn’t mean any harm, he’s just so lonely he keeps talking to John Watson even though John’s not actually there. Like he always does.
The real question of The Six Thatchers was asked in The Abominable Bride.
Can you tell which scenes are poetry or truth?
fun English idiom for “a lie”
a fish story
For real?!?! Ohhhhh my god
srsly, sharks
jellyfish
baby is surrounded by fish
killer whale (a marine mammal which eats fish) poster
pic of sushi, which is basically fish, on Mycroft’s fridge
but my favourite is Mary coming off the fishingboat
do you feel the smell of it
‘Mycroft is Wikipedia’ is hilarious and all but think about it. Both are untrustworthy and can be manipulated by anyone
OH MY GOD
little note that’s easy to miss in fantastic beasts - when discussing the aftermath of the obscurial attack, someone asks if it could be grindelwald and graves replies that no, he was there, this looks different
perhaps the real graves was sent to capture grindelwald around the time that grindelwald ended up disappearing, and that’s when the real graves was replaced
so i’ve been thinking a lot about how mary hardly ever explains herself. she lets other people (sherlock) do the talking. all she does is listen and nod. even when she’s supposed to come clean about who she is in HLV, she asks sherlock “how much do you know already?” and he goes babbling. pretty much all we know about her, we know from sherlock. she doesn’t explain why she shot sherlock, she doesn’t say she was the one phoning the ambulance, she doesn’t explain it was just ‘surgery’. all these answers come from sherlock. how much do you think sherlock has wrongly assumed about her and she just went with it? one of the rare things she did confess is that a.g.r.a were her initials and we just found out that was a lie.
