Ex Guru - Watch Out
In June, Ex Guru released their cover version of Alt-J’s Breezeblocks (here), and, now, they’re back with a whole new song.
'Watch Out' is the second finished track, the band has composed. 'The Hunt', which was released by Ex Guru, last year, has been taken down from the internet, earlier, this month, since it will be released on the band's first full EP, in spring 2015. Therefore, 'Watch Out' is already the second single release from the EP, and it sounds quite promising to me.
Even though the track sounds different from the other songs, the band released - the synthesizers are way cleaner and the beat was moved into background -, ‘Watch Out’ gives us exactly what we love about Ex Guru; namely, a melancholic juxtaposition of foreign beats and strange distorted vocals.
The video isn’t any less scary than a horror movie (watch the video ‘till the end!) While it features the beautiful scenery of the woods and shows us the perks of a sustainable life, on the one hand, it also makes me feel pretty uncomfortable, watching all these insects and worms, on the other hand. The whole video clip feels like walking on a thin line between beauty and oddity, until everything eventually explodes and then disappears, making you feel left out, missing something, like the girl, lying on the floor, in the last scene of the video.
'Watch Out' can be bought from Amazon and iTunes. And I’ll definitely keep you updated, until the EP will be released, in 2015!
