Speak Your Language day English
This is my Speak your language day short story (originally in Finnish) translated into English. It's not 1:1 but the languages differ so... Close enough! (Transcript under the cut)
This snippet feature Crown Prince Carl Magnus and his wife Crown Princess Kristina of Swemland. They are ancestors of the current Crown Prince Magnus who has been in my previous Speak your language day posts. Kristina is also Jonas' great-great…great-aunt, so he is distantly related to Magnus. Probably they have other common relatives too, you know how the nobility is like, marrying cousins etc.
Kristina Gyllenbögel wasn't the queen's (CM's mother) first choice of spouse (or even the fifth) for Crown Prince Carl Magnus. Not that there was anything wrong about Kristina, the Queen was just very adamant about her first idea. Still, he defied her wishes and married the woman he loved. Eventually, Kristina and Carl Magnus had five children together. His father, the king, lived to be a 90-year-old, and Carl Magnus' reign wasn't long. Kristina lived long as a widow and saw both her daughter and granddaughter ascend the throne.
Crown Princess Kristina's portrait was Paul Engel's breakthrough. After the painting was revealed, he received tons of commissions. With the commission money, he was able to spend time on his passion: painting silly pictures of cats and other furry creatures. These days his portraits are held in high regard and the cat paintings are popular meme material.
