with the news of the people dying at a Travis Scott concert while he did essentially nothing, i felt it necessary to list as many examples as possible of how easy it is for a band to control its fans when shit is getting out of control

  1. While on tour in Australia, for the 2013 Soundwave festival, Chester Bennington of Linkin Park stops mid-song to help a fan who had been knocked out.
  2. Zach de la Rocha of Rage Against The Machine stops a show in Arizona to condemn sexual harassment happening in the crowd
  3. Corey Taylor while on tour with his band Stone Sour stops a show in Australia because of an injury, telling the crowd to back up
  4. Chevelle tells man in the crowd at a show to stop pepper spraying people who were just enjoying the show
  5. Kurt Cobain and the rest of Nirvana during a 1993 New Years Eve concert in California tell off a fan for sexually assaulting a woman in the crowd, and proceed to make fun of him
  6. Layne Staley of Alice In Chains punches and slaps a nazi at a 1993 show in Sweden after the man caused trouble in the crowd. Layne then says "fucking Nazis die."
  7. There are so many videos of Billie Joe Armstrong saving fans at shows, they can be put into this six-minute compilation
  8. M. Shadows helps a passed out fan during the 2018 Graspop Metal Meeting, instructing the crowd to give them room
  9. Dexter Holland, singer for skate punk band The Offspring, tells the crowd of Woodstock '99 not to sexually harass the women crowd surfing
  10. Five Finger Death Punch reunite a lost little girl with her mother during the 2016 Chicago Open Air Festival

there are literally hundreds of videos of the proper protocol when there's a situation at your show-- ignoring it isn't one of them. fuck you Travis Scott.

why are you, as a man, showing up early for work?

“Rise and grind?” What are you grinding on? Cock?

early bird gets the "worm?"

Maybe a little too eager to please your manager… hoping for something more?

ohh... you're a hustler, eh?

tbh the funniest part in the fellowship of the rings is when pippin drops the helmet down the well in balin’s tomb and we’re just listening to it drop while everyone stares at him and he flinches at every clang and then when it’s over gandalf goes after his whole life i die every time

The moment people were like “oh shit water benders”

I really loved this episode though, it was an established theme in the show that firebenders are associated with death and waterbenders are associated with life and healing, and up to this point it all seemed so clear-cut, because fire obviously destroys everything in its path while water can put out fires and heals, as we’ve seen particularly in Katara’s case with her natural healing ability.

Then we meet Hama, who due to years of torture and hatred has found a way to turn the classic gentler waterbending ways into a weapon of destruction and manipulation, and honestly I can’t think of a better way to introduce people to the fact that things are never as clear cut as they seem.  We’ve thought of waterbenders as the good guys up until this point, so it’s jarring to find out that no, despite stereotypes and traditions, there are always going to be good and bad people in every culture/group, but that’s the point of the entire show.

It’s revisited later too when Aang and Zuko find the Sun Warriors who teach them firebending is not just about death and destruction, but also about bringing warmth to the earth and making plants grow and both Aang and Zuko needed to hear that they weren’t just instruments of destruction and gain confidence from the idea of using firebending to create life and I love it I love this show so much.

also worth mentioning: the flowers in this episode were specifically called “fire lilies,” and a swathe of blackened plants is generally also what it looks like when fire comes through and destroys and area. It’s showing that not only can water be used in dangerous and harmful ways, but also that water and fire are not as inherently opposite as they seem.

Once you become a certain age, it is your responsibility to unlearn behaviors that hinder your growth as a person.

Man I cannot stress this enough. The “this is how I am, take it or leave it” attitude is an act of immaturity. We all have toxic traits that we need to work on and as an adult it’s our responsibility to recognize the damage that they can do to the ones we love. We all need to put in more effort in becoming better individuals.
