North Carolina Needs You

Hello. Today Grayson and I created http://www.ncneedsyou.com/ This effort is meant to encourage musicians and artists at large who are considering canceling their North Carolina dates due to our bad politics to come here, play the gig, and donate the profits to causes that can beat back the regressive policies of the last several years. These are policies we can defeat. These are policies we must defeat. We need you and those you work with to be involved.

Grayson and I have been involved in music festivals, fundraisers, and political activism in this state for many years. We believe we are in the position to help, and we wanted to put ourselves in the position to do just that. Please pass this link along to your clients, friends, and colleagues, and tell them to be in touch. We have lived in North Carolina all our my lives. This means a great deal to us. Please help how you can, and encourage others to do the same. Be in touch. Grayson Haver Currin + Tina Haver Currin

Did you know? It’s your RIGHT to access reproductive healthcare without being intimidated or terrorized.

People need to see this.

It is illegal to willingly harass and intimidate a person on purpose, even if you are doing it outside of an abortion clinic.  Remember this, pro-lifers.  You can and will be charged. <3

Saturday Chores media coverage was always really neat to see, but I’m most excited when I get the opportunity to talk with students and young activists.

So, I shared some thoughts about Saturday Chores for a cool project about creative resistance at a small liberal arts college called Quest University in Squamish, BC. You can check out the project in the link above.

Today, "Babies Are Murdered Here" sign holders had to move away from the clinic, because we obtained a permit to be on the right of way that superseded the antis'. We sat there quietly until they left. Remember that you can exercise your legal rights! If they have a right to be there... You do too.

Exhibit A: The fence. Exhibit B: The anti-choice people, who saw the fence for the first time this morning, looking confused. After we started doing #saturdaychores, some people expressed concern that we were making it more stressful for patients. So, we did some fundraising and raised enough money to install 128 feet of privacy fencing around the clinic. This was a true community effort, and now, there will be no more yelling, preaching, or harassing the patients who are going inside. Increased privacy AND having a laugh = Yes!

Many of us spend our Saturdays regretting Friday and dreading Sunday. Others, for some reason, take to the streets with handwritten signs condemning abortion as murder. Then there’s Grayson and Tina Currin, a married couple who started to troll these pro-lifers IRL with their own irreverent posters—and created a global counter-protest movement in the process.

In 1998, TIME Magazine declared feminism dead. Nearly 15 years later, it wondered if instead, perhaps feminism should be banned. Constantly on attack from all sides, feminism has spent the past few decades proving its importance and relevance over and over and over again. If there’s one thing history has taught us, it’s that the backlash against feminism will always be a measure of our success. That’s the thing with progress — it is far too often perceived as a threat by those who benefit from the status quo.
Indeed, as we head into December, it’s clear that the year 2014 was a historic one for feminism. Across the Internet and the world, women stood up for their rights, challenged stereotypes, fought for recognition and took control of the dialogue.
The following is a list of some of the most iconic feminist moments this year.
