“ you couldn’t fit ALL OF THAT in a bag of that size , it’s IMPOSSIBLE ! ”
at his words, mary poppins did what she did best. she titled her head, her nose lining up to be as pointy as it could be, and sharply sniffed. tricky as she was, mary poppins often had to trick the impossible into looking sensible, and the magical into looking rational. doing it the other way around … that might be even trickier. giving him a look as haughty as her sniff, mary poppins closed her carpet bag perfectly shut. not a single peek, not a single bulge.
“is it now?” her left eyebrow went up, as if asking the question all over again. “then i suppose it must be empty and you must have imagined the whole thing”

Emily Blunt on set of “Mary Poppins Returns” - London, March 5
sniff! her nose went all upwards, very offended at the question. her whole face followed, lifting her chin in a proud tilt. the nerve!
“don’t be impertinent” still, a little smile curled the way into her lips. so little, it might as well not have been there at all. oh no, not the nerve to ask an impertinent question, it said. they’re much needed from time to time. but the nerve to have it at all! how could he possibly even think her, mary poppins, did not have secret admirers by the dozen? the nerve indeed!
@FIVE-GUNS-DAYS ASKED: ‘ANY SECRET ADMIRERS?’
“I’m not going to compete with a ghost”
hey gise ily
hey kylie ily more
oh okay i understand. i'm sorry i'm just very passionate. but i also think that, while you're right that as an adaption the movie is not perfect and not what p.l. travers wanted, a lot of elements from the book, that some say aren't in the movie are there just tooned down and vice versa. but the essence of mary poppins is always there. (also i personally like her a bit more when she is more kind than when she's more cross because i always go to mary poppins when i'm sad)
NO I HEAR YOU. it’s terrible as an adaptation but that version specifically is such a huge comfort and token to so many of us! and it’s true. that’s why i’d even love the damn lego. i love everything mary poppins don’t let my own extra comments fool you
THERE IS NO TRAINWRECK OF 1964. EVERY MARY IS GOOD IN HER OWN WAY.
listen there could be a lego mary poppins whose only line is “tippity top” or some nonsense and i’d worship that lego but! you have to admit as an adaptation she’s not very good.
