I get nervous when you’re in front of me. And that annoys me because it makes me feel like an idiot. But even though it annoys me… I still wait for you. 나의 해방일지 My Liberation Notes (2022) dir. Kim Seok Yoon

Kenny talking to Don Callis about maintaining kayfabe with Kota
i've been thinking a lot about the at times aggressive reassurance (to kenny or ibushi or the audience or all of the above, i don't think it matters much) to the way the GL story has been kept alive. and now, due to uh, certain whispers in the wind, this might be even more relevant?
but saying it was kept so staunchly alive is old news for anyone who's been following along even for a little while: you can open kenny's book at any point you want, but the chances are very high that you'll eventually stumble upon this love story that's tightly attached to his character like sock garters underneath his slacks, especially the big moments. oh the first foreigner to win the prestigious G1 tournament? well, that sit down last ride is a move that—oh, the press conference? yeah, he keeps trolling the interviewers because he doesn't want to mention his na—what, the necklace? you see that's because—and so on and so on. not to speak of the day that he finally wins the IWGP belt he had so coveted from an opponent he could not for the life of him overcome, no matter how many times he threw his android head against the wall. and when that day finally comes, he makes sure that even the people in the furthest rows, the people tuning in for the cool moves, the people who are fans and the people who aren't, the people who have never heard of DDT, get the message loud and clear: he's my guardian angel to whom i owe everything. i could not have done this without him. he saved me. depending on who's asking (or not asking) and where he is at the time, he owes his career, his life, his wrestling, his heart or his soul to this guy.
