“The Beifong Sisters”

Received a request from Anonnim for a Lin and Su piece from Varrick’s wedding.  Decided to play with color a little.  As a black and white artist, color is a bit tricky for me, but the inspiration I turn to for color tends to be Arthur Rackham, and though I made the colors too saturated for Rackham I think it looks pretty good.  Any comments welcome!

MATERNITY

The moment a child is born, the mother is also born.  She never existed before.  The woman existed, but the mother, never.  A mother is something absolutely new.  | Osho

Entering her mothers office after knocking on the door politely, the slender young women nervously approached her mother. Placing a gift wrapped box and card down on her desk in front of the older women. The card read "I know we never see eye to eye, and because of that I hurt you... I just want to tell you I'm sorry and I hope we can still work to fix what has happened. I love you mother, Happy Mothers Day~ - Badir." (Badirbeifong, There's a hand made mini sand-sailers in the box.)

Su looked up from her work as her oldest came in to great her. She smiled at the gift box and card, but it was the card itself that caused her heart to both ache, and fill with love. Placing the card back on the desk, she stood up and walked over to her daughter. Her arms wrapped tightly around the younger woman as she hugged her. “I’m just glad to have you back, dear. Of course we can fix what happened.... I know that I hurt you too. But I’m just so happy that you’re here and safe and that we have the opportunity to fix things.”

After awhile she released her child, and went back over to her desk to unwrap it. “Oh it’s wonderful, dear! Did you make them?”

"I know you're not my mom and I am not your daughter, but I do hope you still have a wonderful day."

Her brows furrowed and without warning, the older woman reached out and pulled Kuvira into a tight hug. “Thank you.”

Sunset Noodles - Lin, Suyin, and Toph - Mother’s Day 2015

They all met on the highest hill in Republic City, the one where the spirit vines met and formed a wall between the bustling metropolis and the smooth, rolling hills of the outskirts.

It’d been Lin’s idea, oddly: she’d decided to have a picnic, completely out of character for her, but Suyin had loved the idea. “Mom will love it,” Suyin exclaimed. Lin just grunted in response.

Toph did show, however: she came sauntering up the hill, barefeet slapping down the thick grass. “Hey chief,” she called to Lin, lips hitching up in a smirk.

“Hey chief,” Lin replied. She patted Toph’s shoulder, cheeks coloring. “It’s been a while.”
