For The Price Of Freedom

Hans glanced subtly at Rapunzel as she ate the ripe apple hungrily and how her smile grew as she ate the fruit. Despite how she looked, Hans could see the almost child-like glow as she curled in her legs and chewed on the fruit. He still held onto his, just turning it around in his fingers, lost in thought.

Out of curiosity, Hans reached brushed his fingers at the bundle of hair that laid behind and around the blonde girl. He let his fingers comb over the strands of hair and watched, waiting for something to happen, but nothing came. Lifting a strand into his palm he softly began to sing the melody the lost princess had used when healing his hair. “Flower gleam and glow. Let your powers shine…” The ginger man had to stop there and hum the rest of the tune. Either way, nothing seemed to happen when it was him singing. The blonde hair didn’t change nor shone brightly like it did before. “So that’s why she stole you. You’re the only one who can control it.”

Rapunzel didn't even feel when his fingers combed through her hair, her eyes cast down on her apple. She was so hungry. And those apples tasted really good too, that helped, but it made her think of Maximus and, with that, the past. Those few days that changed her life forever. She sighed, lowering the apple down to her lap as she thought.

Then, she heard the man singing and it brought her back from the dark times inside her mind and she smiled at him, shrugging.

❝You can do it yourself but you have to sing the whole song, all the words.❞  She chuckled, Mother Gothel used to sing it herself when Rapunzel was younger and didn't know how to, so she figured it still worked. Plus, she wasn't always willing to sing when locked up on those hand cuffs.

❝She stole me because if you cut it, it turns brown and it stops working, and never grows back.❞  Fishing through the locks of blonde hair, she caught the little short dark brown strand and showed it to him, tilting her head a little so he could see. It got easily lost in the sea of blonde anyway.

We all get stuck. We all lose ourselves a little bit in a fantasy or in our jobs and forget how we feel about other things. It’s really important to check yourself, to spend some time alone.”
