What’s new this year? 95% of it is the same as the last two years except this time, we’re gonna add a little something new. We’ve been constantly running into the problem of not everyone getting their gifts, but thanks to a great suggestion, we’ve added an extra question to the SS form - “If you want to be a backup gifter, would you be able to make 2 gifts at the same time?”
Hopefully, this will fix (or at least alleviate) this problem and as always, we really try our best to make sure everyone is taken care of so please make sure you can dedicate some time to this fandom project.
With this year being the last one for The Legend of Korra, we look forward to another awesome run for the Secret Santa and hope you guys are too!
Book Five: Fandom Update
Hey everyone, considering many of you been asking about our progress on Book Five: Fandom, we thought we'd give you a quick rundown on where things currently stand.
Right now we are processing 1,231 inbox messages from both Tumblr and Yahoo. We estimate somewhere between 1/2 and 2/3's of that number are individual submissions. Now considering each submission can contain up to four pieces of content (a letter and three photos for instance), we predict that the book will contain over a thousand distinct items.
Our team is made up of seven individuals, six of whom are responsible for sorting, extracting, and proofreading your submissions, and the seventh man who is responsible for formatting and designing the book itself.
The process is quite slow (you'd be surprised how many people submitted six page letters), but progress is nevertheless being made. Our goal is to get this book out in 2014, and as things stand now, we should be able to do so.
Thank you for all your support, and we will keep you updated in the weeks to come.

How long will it take to get notified that you received our letters? I sent mine right before the deadline and I still haven't gotten a notification, but my friend who submitted after me did :c
Received notifications were not sent out in any particular order. Lately, Yahoo Mail has made it extremely difficult to send out more than a few replies at a time, so we have stopped sending out received notifications all together. Don’t worry though, unless you received an automatic reply saying your email did not go through, your submission is currently being processed and will be present in the book!

What legal reasons are there for Bryke not to accept fan fiction...?
It’s not that Bryke can’t accept fanfiction, it’s that they can’t read fanfiction. It could be liability in the future because of the potential for accidentally stealing ideas from a fanfiction. For that reason our project cannot accept fanfiction submissions, as we hope for Bryke to be able to actually look at each entry.
As for Bryke’s stance on fanfiction itself, who knows.

There are no current plans for that, no.
The reason a digital version would be the only way we would ever consider sharing this publication is because selling a physical hard copy would constitute blatant copyright infringement.

Is there going to be a way for the fans to see how the book turned out when it's all done, or will the final result be strictly for Mike and Bryan's eyes? I would like to see how my submission looks on the page. I wouldn't mind owning a copy or seeing the pages digitally!
We will discuss releasing a digital version with the private items removed, but that's still to be decided.
