In 2000, I got into the Gundam Wing fandom. I was 13.

Along with MANY people, we didn’t have personal computers, and NO smartphones, so if I wanted to read fanfic or see fanart, I had to sneak into my family living room at 3am and silently read it.

If I liked it, I would copy and paste to Notepad and save it to a FLOPPY DISK.

From that floppy disk, I would print it out when I could and save it into my ghetto ‘Tumblr 2000’ binder. No joke.

Guys. You guys. We have it pretty good now.

*grabs iPad to read fics in my bed, surf Tumblr on my iMac while watching Sherlock season 3 on Netflix and having my own place to my own damn self*

This mod is crying BECAUSE SHE IS TOTALLY NOT ALONE.

Oh god, I wasn’t alone.

Holy shit this looks like my binder from middle school when I was, what…13?

My sister-in-law has a pristinely kept printed copy of her favorite Cardcaptor Sakura fanfic in its own binder that she has saved for 15 years. She told me about this life. I came into fanfic slightly later, during the changeover from independent circles of fanmade sites to the early stages of ff.net. I still remember clicking from page to page with archives of stories with completely unacceptable themes, colors, and fonts, trying to find the kinds of stories I wanted to read (and all in the basement office on Windows ME). We have it easy now with various search criteria and laptops.

Omg. I remember when I thought AO3 was some weirdo site that looked slightly better than FF.net. O_o Yo, when I was 15, I had a Geocities site, and the Internet was REALLY small. There was no such thing as tags or blogs.  Here’s a little context: Google search didn’t exist when I got into fandom.

I’m still crying over a fic that someone had hosted on a geocities site that DISAPPEARED ONE DAY FUCK MY ENTIRE LIFE

Also I had a similar binder, do you remember those printers that were basically long sheets of papers with perforations and they had the circl-y tabs on the sides? Because that’s what those pictures (I recall a really bad B&W one of Trowa that I colored in with colored pencils) were printed on. Oh, and my 3.5″ flopies that have like.... 3 pictures on them.

Bless technology and innovation

So I’m 100% convinced that a young James Spader made a clone of himself, and sent him to the future (which is our present day) and had him go under the alias ‘Jensen Ackles’.

Was sitting here watching a movie called Dream Lover and was like

especially in Jensen’s younger soaps/modeling days.
