THE GREAT ESCAPE

This years Great Escape line up is so new music focused that it seems  many of you haven't a darn clue who you should see! I'm a Brighton resident and know a bit about Brighton, I run a festival so know a bit about music. Below is my guide to The Great Escape and Brighton...assuming you arrive by train.

Do you need cash? There are ATM's dead ahead of you as you enter the station from the tracks. Now that's done you'll be wanting to get into town. Don't go down the tempting sea route! Yes, the sun is shining and the sea looks appealing in the distance, but that's Queen's Road you're looking at and it ain't pretty even on a sunny day. Head under the station down Trafalgar Street and you'll be in the real Brighton. Straight away you'll see The Prince Albert (a TGE venue) It's worth checking out what they have on over the weekend if you don't know already. Weave on down Trafalgar Street keeping on the side of the Albert and on the look out for Cafe 33. Buy a coffee, it's one of the best the city and I would say the South has to offer. Coffee in hand keep on wondering down the street (Make a note of Mange Tout -great food) until you see Sydney Street, turn onto Sydney Street and you are in the heart of The Lanes. Walk down the street have a nose around, head right at the end and sneak down the busy looking street in front of you (Kensington Gardens) on your left you'll spot Resident Records...take a look in side if you've never been. A real record store which will no doubt have in stores on over the weekend. At the end of the street turn left, you'll see a well known coffee chain on the corner which is well worth avoiding, head towards it and carry on down Jubilee Street. You are now in the centre of the festival where Delegates and non Delegates gather to collect tickets. There's an Airstream which will play host to live music over the weekend (another ATM) and all the helpful TGE Volunteer Staff you'll need to guide you through your weekend. Get ticketed up and you're good to go.

Now for the bands. In a simple A-Z no messing format, here's the bands worth looking out for.

Arcane Roots // Arrows of Love // Axes // Bastille // Beach Fossil's Bear

Cavalry // Bear's Den // Boneyards // Cheatahs // Childhood // Chvrches

Common Tongues // Crushed Beaks // Curxes // Dan Croll

Dark Horses // Deap Vally // Dingus Khan  // Doctrines // Dolomite Minor

Drenge // Eagulls // Fear of Men // Fight Like Apes // Freeze The Atlantic

Girls names // Gnarwolves // Gunning For Tamer // Hares

A long list reduced to a slightly less than long list, I hope it helps. If you're lost for a band to see or stuck in a queue that won't end and one of these bands are on elsewhere...take a risk, leave the queue and go see them!

Have fun! Cap'n x
