Do you think it's possible for a demigod to have dyscalculia instead of dyslexia?

I know I said this blog was inactive but this popped up in my inbox anyway so here I am - yeah it’s totally possible. I’m admittedly not up to date on the PJO verse - I’ve only read through to the first trials of apollo book, so idk what really happens there, BUT. Yes, as seen in HOO with Frank being lactose intolerant but not having ADHD/being dyslexic.

ADHD + dyslexia are explained in PJO lore as being due to the fact demigods brains are hardwired for greek/roman, and have battle reflexes. Depending on the power of a demigod however, they may have other prices to pay.

Such as Frank’s fire and lactose intolerance. He doesn’t have ADHD + dyslexia but larger issues to balance out his immense power. I think the introduction of Frank in HOO slightly changed the lore, at least for me. It’s partially about the amount of power they hold and balancing them out - it seems as if demigods conditions worsen as their powers grow.

I think it would be dependent on their powers and other issues in their life, but yes I think a demigod could absolutely have dyscalculia instead of dyslexia.

Past that, demigods can totally just . . . have disorders past ones caused or in correlation to their godly parentage. So if for whatever reason you wanted to imagine a demigod with dyscalculia . . . they exist.

Piper Mclean Headcanons

  • Her beauty is distinct - different to most that you see. Her beauty is soft to the point of stunning, odd to the point of enchanting, and warm to the point of burns.
  • She reminds you of water - Her body is willowy, every limb slim and elegant, every movement flowing like a stream.  Her voice and speech are clear and continuous, smooth and soothing. Hearing her talk is like hearing a melodious lullaby being sung.
  • Her face is narrow, oval - the angles defined but still smooth. Her eyes are large and enticing, subconsciously drawing you in like a siren. They hold a kaleidoscope of colors - from the icy hues of the tundra to the deepest blues of the ocean. From the sweet tones of caramel to the richness of bark. From the crispness of spring grass to the intense greens of christmas pines. They’re framed with thick upper lashes and a beauty mark rests near the corner of her left eye.
  • Her skin is the first glow of dawn, a medium creamy brown that is a mixture of both copper and bronze. Her lips are full and even, the same shade of a fresh raspberry.
  • Her hair is beautiful with thick and silky strands that end in defined points. It’s the shade of a rich chocolate. Her shortest layers begin right below her cheek and then cascade down to the bottom of her shoulder blades. She has a variety of braids in them, some pulling back her hair from her eyes and others that trail over her shoulders, all varying in size and length. It’s become a habit of hers when she’s nervous or bored to add more and more braids to her hair.
  • The shades of her eyes often change to the person she’s talking too. It depends on the eye of the beholder, and her eyes will predominately become more of that shade of whoever that person loves the most. When talking to Annabeth, the green in her eyes become stronger, almost turning the shade of the sea. When talking to Nico, her eyes become darker, browner, and Nico can’t ever really meet her in the eye because he’s reminded too strongly of Bianca. When talking to Jason, the kaleidoscope becomes stronger, the swirls of colors more intense because he loves her more than anything.
  • She and Percy start skateboarding together after boo. She’s pretty decent at surfboarding and she figures it can’t be too much different, right? She learns pretty quickly that it is and the scrapes on her palms and knees only prove that point. But she still finds it fun, especially since there’s just a higher bit of thrill knowing that the asphalt is way less forgiving than the ocean if you fall off.
  • In return, she teaches Percy how to surfboard - something that he not only picks up the first time he ever steps on the board but excels far better than she could ever hope to accomplish. But she figures that you couldn’t really expect less when teaching a son of Poseidon how to surfboard.
  • Her favorite music is indie rock and alternative.
  • She and her dad start an ongoing joke when giving gifts to each other. Whenever she buys him something for holidays or birthdays she includes the receipt in the package to enforce the fact that she didn’t steal it.
  • She and Drew surprisingly grow closer after Boo - It’s something that happens when you bond over the death of your siblings but they come to a mutual understanding of each other. Drew makes her more open to the fact that ‘stereotypical’ beauty, fashion, and make up doesn’t make a person any less if they like those things. Piper in return teaches her that you shouldn’t have to break someone’s heart if you’re a daughter of Aphrodite and love shouldn’t be a game.
  • They come to an agreement of each other and become co-counselors of the Aphrodite Cabin.
  • She and Jason one year for Halloween go as Superman and Lois Lane because they couldn’t resist the irony. (And yes, they totally did the iconic fly through New York because it would have been a shame to pass up that opportunity.)
  • Her outfits are made up of Jason’s stolen jackets, ripped skinny jeans, and ironic T-Shirts.
  • She and Leo are the members of the seven that run up to their friends and take unexpected selfies. Their competition is too get the most awkward photo they can of their friends.
  • She and Leo get matching T-Shirts that have the words Repair Boy and Beauty Queen respectively spray painted on the backs of them.
  • She feels her happiest when she’s around her friends, and she took Leo’s death the hardest out of all of the seven.

Friendly reminder that Piper would have looked like this as a kid:

She isn’t white or ‘tan’ (as I’ve heard her being called before)

SHE’S HALF CHEROKEE!!! (and since the gods don’t have any DNA or permanent physical form, she could be fully Cherokee)

Don’t take this representation away from Cherokee people, it’s not like they get much else!

rick riordan: percy and annabeth will make a life for themselves in new rome!

me, an intellectual: annabeth design a new athens in CHB for demigods, and then she and percy will live in new york

i feel the need to address the fact that we have no idea if percy jackson can change the temperature/phase of water like yeah he can control water but to what extent i must know

I believe yes! That he can! But he probably doesn’t know he can? Like why would he need to know this information? but water can be all kinds of temperatures and I also feel like, esp in Poseidon's castle, he would need to have regulation of water temperatures to make sure all the creatures that live there CAN live there y’know what I mean? So it’s a perfectly valid for Percy to have that power he probably just doesn’t realize it.

SO, seeing what he did at the farm (with the horses I am too lazy to google the name) in the PJO books, where he summoned the water even when there really wasn’t any water, he doesn’t NEED water in it’s liquid form. He could probably with enough effort gather water out of any of it’s forms, solid liquid or gaseous. This means he would naturally have to have control over water’s temps because to change forms there needs to be temperature changes.

I saw this in the tags and like, theoretically he COULD do something like make people’s blood boil or freeze and use his powers as a weapon in that sense however I personally think it’s a bit of a stretch. @ me if I’m wrong but I cannot recall anytime he controlled something that wasn’t water, and he was more powerful with saltwater than freshwater, right? I personally think it’s a bit  inconceivable for him to be able to do something like blood-bending from AtLA. Just because his control seems to be mainly on water in it’s main form.

So in my opinion:

  • Yes he can control temperature of water
  • Yes he can also change the water’s form
  • Can’t control water when it’s necessarily in something else and use that as a weapon

Headcaon #50 - College

Well here is my little soul stressin bout college apps (which are 9 months away), and I have been thinking a heck-ton about college and Percabeth? So here y’all go.

  • First of all, let’s just all agree that Percabeth never went to college in New Rome. Before you try and fight me here are my (short) list of reasons
  • Both of them are just done with the gods. They don’t want anything else to do with them, even the Roman ones. They just want to be left well alone to do their own shit without everyone f*cking them over. They would NOT I repeat NOT go to a college in a place where there were so many god-run-in opportunities? pls.
  • Do y’all thINK Sally Jackson is gonna let her son go to college on the other side of the country? She probably would, but do you thINK Percy is gonna live like that without his mom? Percy ADORES his mom and knows how much worry he’s put her through and I can guarantee Percy is that kid that goes home on the weekends to visit his mom! brings her flowers!
  • Annabeth wants to become a world famous architect and my gal is not gonna live it up at some basic-ass college. Some mythical college. Best bet Juno/Hera would try and f*ck up her transcripts and it would be a whole mess. Annabeth def would want to go to the best school she possibly can with the best STEM program possible

Okay, now we’ve cleared that up … .

  • Annabeth would either go to Columbia or Cornell, just depends on what she feels like.
  • Okay so, I have opinions about Percy and college. I think as he gets older with help from Annabeth he learns how to deal with his adhd/dyslexia more. Switching texts into greek for him to read, positive methods of focus for ADHD kids, etc. I think he’s interested enough to go to college, that he wants to further his education, but lbr his academics are not gonna suddenly swing to Ivy-league standards.
  • BUT. He can swim like a boss. IMO Percy would go to one of the top ten schools for men’s swimming, first division! look at my boy GO!
  • Again, I don’t think he’d want to be too far away from his mom so he’d go to school on the east coast, which out of the top ten means he’d probably go to Harvard on a full-swim scholarship and live his best life

Lol this is unfinished I meant to draft this not queue it! Please don't reblog it I haven't even gotten to the good shit y'all

“Rick Riordan sucks,” I say into the mic.

The crowd boos, security comes out to drag me kicking off the stage until a voice rings out and commands silence.

“They’re right,” it says. I look for the owner of the voice. There, standing in the fifth row: Percy Jackson himself.

Ok but what if Percy secretly has a great voice because 1) the ocean sounds beautiful(like all moving water) 2) sirens?? Are creatures of water right?? What if he inherits that. Annabeth knows but only because in/after Tartarus Percy would sing to help with the fear and nightmares. ALSO Piper and Percy singing together?? Yes?? What do you think?

Okay I 100% support Percy having a beautiful singing voice, but maybe not in the sense you’re thinking. I don’t think he could necessarily inherit a siren voice? at least in my mind if you want to headcanon he does go right on ahead.

Speaking on your first point, I think that would definitely translate to his speaking voice. When I think about the ocean I think about a steady rise and fall and a low, constant sound. To me I think that would translate to him having an almost . . melodic quality? Think of like an Irish accent, how their voices rise and fall in an almost sing-songy way when they talk. With Percy I think his voice would rise and fall the same way waves crash against a shore. In and out. I also think his voice might be a bit low.

And Percy and Piper singing? um YES. Percy singing Annabeth lullabies? YES
