My dad is in town and wanted to take Jace shopping for new shoes, so I went along as well to help pick out the right sizes. He found these super awesome Captain America shoes that lit up that he LOVED. His eyes got wider, he claimed they made him jump higher, and told me they were the ones he reallllllllly wanted. But instead, I insisted we get the "big boy" converse that were totally boring, but matched with more of his outfits. I explained why we "couldn't" get the light up shoes, he innocently tried to understand and just replied, "ok, mommy." No fits, no arguments, no anger, just a hint of sadness. Now, I'm at home, watching him start to come out of his nap, and he looks so little, so young, and that's because he still IS. He is three. And yes, he is a big three, but he is still just a child. And I made him get the stupid older style boy shoes instead of the awesome light up ones that filled his little eyes with stars, because iiiiiii thought they would "go" with more things he wore. I'm thoroughly disappointed in myself, and I feel as if this was a little push, that I always try not to do, toward him growing up faster. And I could tell he felt that. And I cannot wait until he's awake so that I can apologize, and explain that we will be going back tomorrow for the super hero light up shoes that will totally match or mismatch all his outfits because WHO CARES. He's three, and his little heart won't skip much longer over cartoon character neon blue and silver shoes with red lights in them.
