Hi. Do you know of any reliable sources that I can check out that pertain to the Irish myths? I've researched but can't find anything or maybe I just don't understand. I know that there are four major cycles. The Mythological, Ulster, Fenian, and Historical cycles. Is there a place that I can maybe read these cycles? Or is that not a thing? Because I know that a lot of info is lost on the subject but there must be something? I'm just really lost and as I'm a reconstructionist this is important.

Hey nonny, we’ve posted a few resources in the past, these are the ones that might help you. It can be overwhelming when you’re searching for resources, so I understand any difficulties you’ve had.

Looking at a variety of places may help to fill in some of the gaps, and these are a few starting points. They include myths of all sorts, so you should be able to find relevant information from a variety of cycles if you take a little time.

Once in a Blue Moon

This phrase typically means that something is rare or only happens on special occasions. A blue moon is the second full moon in one calendar month. Why does this matter? Well, it’s rare! A blue moon only occurs once every 2.5-3 years.

With that being said, the blue moon is an excellent time to cast spells and be witchy! It is believed that blue moons have more power because they’re rare. Whether or not you believe this is personal, but for those who do believe, you might be feeling a bit overwhelmed with what to do!

The truth is, there is no right or wrong way to utilize a blue moon. If you just want to do regular spells for the extra energy, that’s fine! If you want to do something a little special involving moon magic(k), that’s fine as well! Some people even have blue moon rituals and/or celebrate their deities on the day of the blue moon. It’s entirely up to you to figure out how you want to do things.

Here are some ideas if you’re not quite sure what to do:

The full moon is excellent for doing spells involving

  • Healing
  • Divination
  • Intuition
  • Wishing spells
  • Deities
  • Protection

But any spells you want to do that you think need a little extra boost can be done on the night of a full moon. There are no limitations!

Please note this PSA by ever-shiftingcurrents! The actual blue moon time will vary depending on where you are in the world. Some of you might have to set out your crystals, tools, water, etc. outside Thursday night instead of Friday.

recreationalwitchcraft also has a lovely post going around Tumblr about things you can do on this blue moon. Spread that around if you can!

I’ll add more ideas if I think of any, and I may be posting original spells later. But if you need anymore ideas, you can check the tags here on Tumblr!

There is also a Monster Supplies store in London. This funky shop is part of the Ministry of Stories, a registered charity that helps kids with writing.

I feel like it’s necessary to add the Brooklyn Superhero Supply store to the list. It’s a “front” for 826NYC, a non-profit located in the “secret lair” in the back of the store that hosts writing workshops and things for kids.

In Seattle, it’s a Space Travel Suppy store.

I came across this a couple of weeks ago, and I can’t wait to visit it when we fly to LA in December!

I see many aura masterposts that leave out so much. There are more than six colors of auras, and knowing them all is very important to anyone who takes their gift seriously. Please use this information wisely.

Hi you posted something about visions and such. I need some guidence if you dont mind answering. Lately I been noticing dreams I have had have come true. Except i dont know if they are a vision at the time until the moment happens for itself. (1)

I have also had my share of visions that have come true. I guess the main thing that stands out for me is how real the dream is. How you can feel things, taste them, see them or hear them. I guess I would recommend beginning to use a dream journal. This can be a separate book, or your Book of Mirrors, or Shadows. Being able to tell a vision is a vision varies greatly between individuals, the only true way you’re going to be able to determine wether or not a dream is a vision is by looking back at your dreams in detail and seeing what is different between the two. The other piece of advice I would give you is to just go with your gut instinct. If you wake up and have had a vision sometimes you feel different then what you would feel if you had just woken up from a normal dream.I hope I helped, I am still fairly new with this, feel welcome to also seek guidance from others who may know more, as they may mention something that I’ve forgotten, or haven’t learnt yet.I wish you the best of luck :)

~ Herbs for Divination ~

You can use herbs, herbal incense, herbal oils, and a whole lot more to aid you in divination.

I enjoy dabbing my tools with oil or a little concoction to add to their energy, and sometimes keep a sachet nearby during divination sessions. I like the way they smell, and find that they help get me into another mindset.

So, that being said, there are a few really nice herbs/flowers/plants that I recommend you using for divination! :D

Beside each herb is a link to it’s potential side effects and warnings, and is marked by an ‘x. ^_^

~ Herbs for Divination ~

Lavender ~ Protection, calming, and sharpens psychic abilities x

Sage ~ Protection, clearing away of negative energies/blockages x

Mugwort ~ Protection from psychic attacks, sharpens psychic abilities, and is useful for dream divination as well x

Anise ~ Protection from negative spirits/energies, aids one in getting into the divinatory state of mind, and enhances psychic abilities x

Rose Petals ~ Protection, sharpens psychic abilities, and is great for love-related divination x

Yarrow ~ Enhances psychic abilities, aids one in love & healing related divination especially, and boosts happiness/confidence x

Camphor ~ Good for dream divination, prophecy, purification, and sharpening psychic abilities x

Mint ~ Protection, calling good spirits, and cleansing/purification x

Of course there are a bunch more, but these should get you started.

As you can probably tell, I like to choose herbs that are not only good for divination, but also have protective qualities as well. I like to do this to ensure I am safe and not attracting any negative energies that may interfere with the reading I am doing :)

For some of the herbs, teas or ritual baths can be made with them, but always check to make sure they mix well with your medication, state of health, and any other situation you’re in. This is especially important for pregnant diviners! ^_^

Good luck everyone! :D And feel free to add on with your favorite herbs/plants ^_^

Tips for Witches in The Broom Closet #2

When buying things for spells or your alter to avoid suspicion say you want them for a witchy look for your room. Or say you want a room that reminds you of your favorite book(Name a book about witches. Even if its Practical Magic, or Harry Potter something they wont notice.)

Turn your handwriting into a font

I discovered this by accident and I thought it was really funny and cute:

1. Download the template from MyScriptFont website

2. Write out the alphabet and numbers in your style, using a black marker (felt pen). This is mine:

3. Scan the template  4. Upload to the MyScriptFont website, name it, set the format and click “send file” 5. Download it to your computer and install

And check out my result!
