I’m not going to hug first. Nor am I.
The Doctor watched her carefully, watched as she slurred her words and whispered. He felt her fingers twitch against his palm, a movement so small and weak that he barely realized it.
“I don’t know yet, Pond,” he answered her, his voice low and gentle.
Truth be told, the Doctor didn’t know much of what happened. He only knew that Amy had been hurt. He didn’t know where Rory was, or if he’d been in the accident with Amy.
“Don’t try to talk, it’s okay,” he told her. He squeezed her hand again, leaning closer to her so she would be able to see him. “I’ll find Rory. You just rest, yeah? You just rest and get better. I’ll go find Rory.”
He hadn’t been there when it happened. She tried to tell the people helping her, repeatedly, to call her husband. She wants to ask the Doctor how he knew, but that required a lot more energy than she had. She panics though, when he tries to leave her.
“No.”
Her attempt to squeeze his hand as tightly as she can was pretty weak regardless, but there was more strength behind it than a few seconds ago.
“Don’t. Please.”
“Please stay”
When the Doctor got word of what had happened, he nearly crashed the TARDIS - several times - in his rush to get to Amy. He didn’t know the details, didn’t know what had actually happened. He just knew something was wrong. He felt it deep in his hearts, that Amy was hurt and something was very, very wrong.
He triple-checked all of the information before he landed, before he sprinted out of the time machine and into the hospital lobby. The receptionist stared at him, pointed him in the direction of the ICU when he asked, desperately, “Where’s Amelia? Amelia Pond, where can I find her?”
The other doctors he passed had tried to stop him from running into her room, but the Doctor was persistent. Nothing would keep him from Amy. And it wasn’t long before he was standing in the doorway to her room, feeling frozen.
His hearts sunk and fear gnawed at him, but he continued forwards, taking a seat by Amy’s bed and taking her hand in both of his.
“I’m here,” he said, voice quiet. “I’m right here, Amelia…”
Amy had been out of surgery for a while now by the time the Doctor had gotten there. She had been in a car accident and had a broken leg and internal bleeding they had to deal with. Unsurprisingly she was still out of it, and in a lot of pain from both the surgery and the accident in general.
In all honesty she wasn’t sure if the Doctor was actually there or if she was hallucinating, even as he grabs hold of her hand. She can barely manage to open her eyes enough to look at him, but she tries to squeeze his hand back in response.
“Where’s Rory?”
Her words came out slurred and barely above a whisper, but that was about as much energy as she could muster right now.

❛ maybe you’re dehydrated? need some water? it is on the sharper side of humid out here. ❜ the doctor pressed his hand up against the trunk of a thick, old tree, resting there for a moment as though waiting for something - and only after another minute turned to look at amy over his shoulder.
❛ we can take a break, if you’d like. ❜
Amy noticed the way he paused, but she couldn’t hear or see anything off in the distance. Unless he heard something that she couldn’t. Everything in her body was telling her that something was off here, but she couldn’t figure out what. It’s not like they haven’t been to weird places before.
“What are we doing here, Doctor? Really? You’ve been talking about this place for hours, but you’ve been dodging my questions about why we’re even here.”
“What a lovely forest. Kind of makes you want to retch, yes?”
❛ oh, come on - don’t you feel the magic? the wonder? this forest hasn’t been touched. we’re the first, seeing it as it’s meant to be seen, experiencing it in a way nobody else ever will. ❜
“I feel my lunch coming back up.” Seriously. Why doesn’t he feel sick? Or is he just too excited to feel sick right now?
“You don’t feel, I don’t know, odd?”

“Ha! Gotcha!” Amy took a little too much glee when she hit the Doctor square in the face with a snowball. She’s already bending down to pack another one together.
Send in ❄️ to play with my muse out in the snow!
New phone. Who dis?
“Amelia, I literally just gave you this phone. And I said it’s for emergencies only.“ He pauses, glancing to his left, phone pressed to his ear. “Pond, this is ridiculous, you’re standing not ten feet away.“
“I was just making sure it worked. Besides, you’re the one being ridiculous by actually responding.”
“I can only hope so.”
“Amelia Pond, a mind is a terrible thing to have.” Besides, she has just as many screws lose as he does, why is she even playing? “Just because you an’ Rory have been married forever now, doesn’t mean you have to be as boring as him.”
She may have as many screws lose, but she knew how to act rationally still.
“He is not boring.” Okay, even she didn’t believe that. “Oh just-” Amy reached out to hit him on the arm. “Shut up.”
“Wha-? Have you completely lost your mind?!”
