We saw your Reddit post on personal data being publicly exposed. The tip API only shows tips that you have sent or received or people who have chosen to make their ChangeTip profile public. Otherwise, tip data is not publicly available on our API. Our core value and principle is to serve our user’s interests and needs and protect your data and give you complete control over it.
Some of our users are concerned about privacy and may not want people who sent them tips to be able to see their profile data. For all users, we’ve added a new setting that allows you to turn this option on and off at your discretion.
By changing to a private option on your account settings page (link to https://www.changetip.com/account), people who send you tips will no longer be able to see any of your profile data.
Like all apps on social networks, we wanted to focus on good user experience. When someone sends you a tip, we display some basic profile data such as your picture. Many users requested this feature so that folks new to online social payments (and bitcoin) would see who they are sending tips to and also ensure you are selecting the right recipient. We heard that it was a better experience from many of you because you get to see a lovely picture of the person you sent the tip to instead of a “unknown person” icon.
We’re very committed to privacy and we want to give you complete control of your data.

E-mail someone bitcoin
The One Time Tip link enables people to send bitcoin in an e-mail or over chat messages like Skype. It’s really never been easier to send someone bitcoin. Simply type in the amount you wish to send, copy the link and send it to the intended recipient. Done.
Text someone a beer
Using the One Time Tip link, we are now able to send anyone money over SMS/text/iMessage. I’ve used this feature to tip cab drivers who are interested in bitcoin, to send bitcoin to friends, and to show others how easy it is to send bitcoin over different mediums. Tonight, I plan on tipping some journalists at CES who may not have a Twitter handle, using the One Time Tip link.
Hold unique contests online
One of the best parts of our community is seeing how people use our products - often times in ways we hadn’t even imagined. Adam Guerbuez had a little giveaway - the first people to click his link won some money through the One Tip Tip link.
