I have been Kingsmaned and I want everyone else to be Kingsmaned too

addendum to ‘no woman is reduced with sexualization’
sadly this is not true, while most of the movie rolled smoothly in good fun there is a scene of complete indulgently crude sexist humor that threatens to sour it
it is a small bit but, unfortunately, not ignorable and is worth noting and being aware of if people are going to go into this movie thinking that it’s it’s not going to sell you reductive humor in the form of a woman being the punch line
otherwise, the (only) other two women are treated with respect and given personality and are very fun to watch. i only wish this was something allowed throughout
go see kingsmen definitely, (especially since i just heard rumors of the best character maybe returning for a sequel!) just be knowledgeable for what you will be seeing

Okay so spoiler alert and all that because I am going to be talking about plot and explaining why it’s not just the sexist humour that makes Kingsman a movie that deals with female characters poorly, and also why i have a whole other tray of beef with the film despite actually enjoying it a lot.

I’d like the preface what I am about to say about Roxy and Gazelle with the fact that aside from Eggsy, nobody actually has any semblance of character depth except for maybe Harry (but even that’s debatable because I am very biased by my weird crush on Colin Firth). But anyways, we literally don’t know anything about either of these characters that is independent from the male figures that they satellite around in Kingman’s narrative.

Roxy is the nice rich girl who stands up for Eggsy the underdog in the beginning, and then the recipient of character development after Eggsy encourages her to stop being afraid of heights. Her only major contribution to the plotline, shooting the satellite, isn’t even entirely her own accomplishment because Eggsy helped her gain enough confidence in herself to do that, and we can see that in how he keeps checking in on her (and also that parachute scene where he basically saves her ass). Sure she’s incredibly accomplished and advanced further than any of the other candidates and is the only one to become a kingsman, but all of that is just setup for Eggsy to get a healthy dose of rejection man-pain. We as an audience hardly know anything about Roxy as a person except for how she exists in relation to Eggsy.

Gazelle fares little better. She takes nobody’s bullshit. She does Valentine’s dirty work. She’s his right-hand-person, and she is a disabled-bodied person who in essence finds a way to weaponize her disability and wields it as a lethal weapon. That’s it. Aside from the knife-legs her traits are interchangeable with about a million other evil mastermind sidekicks. Again, we don’t really know anything about her that isn’t in some way related to Valentine, and she doesn’t even contribute anything major for the plotline except slicing that agent in half in the log cabin scene.

Both girls have the potential to be great characters, but Kingsman does nothing with them because female presence in the movie is next to nonexistent. Eggsy’s mother is literally the worried mother and abused woman trope rolled into one.

The film doesn’t do too well with racial diversity either. Samuel L Jackson and Sofia Boutella are the only non-white characters of significance in the entire film, and coincidentally also the primary villains. Now if we look at the acts of their villainy; orchestrating mass genocide, in conjunction to the characters that they portray: a black man and a disabled WOC, we can see a tiny, fun bit of irony. Kingsman maps the acts of committing mass genocide onto bodies of people who are visibly racialized and disabled, and maps the acts of preventing these atrocities onto bodies that are visibly white, able-bodied, and male. Now if you’d look back into European history for a brief moment, what are two groups of people that have been targets for mass genocide and eugenicide? And who have been the perpetrators?

There’s also the issue of casting an able-bodied actress to play Gazelle and the weird way that the film addresses social mobility, but I am not well-equipped enough to talk about either of these subjects.

I loved Kingsman. It’s a cute underdog/spy flick with suit porn, excessive amounts of Chekhov’s gun, and a very lovable cast, but dear god does it come with ideological and representational issues.

Also on a completely unrelated note, did they actually just blow the costume budget on bespoke suits for Colin Firth and Taron Egerton because all of Sofia Boutella’s two outfits in the film were hella fug. Gazelle’s two looks were like puritanical Rachel Berry and that fuschia disaster with the ugly hat.

DO NOT GIVE OR GET ANY VACCINATIONS FOR YOURSELF OR  YOUR KIDS………..

blu-thoth

Ok, lets break this down nice and simple.

Formaldehyde is from the purification of the vaccine. 99.9% of which is removed. The reason it doesn’t give a dosage is the ammount is so minuscule that it can’t be measured without going into picograms. That’s one trillionth of a gram. You breathe in more formaldehyde by driving down a busy road than in a vaccine.

Thimerosal is NOT elemental mercury, It is a molecular compound made up of carbon, hydrogen, mercury, sodium, oxygen, and sulfur. This is used as a preservative for the vaccine. Thimerosal is used in a variety of other things, like tattoo ink, facial creams, nasal sprays. It’s toxic to humans only in fairly large quantities but highly toxic to aquatic born organisms like infectious bacteria. In short, it makes sure you don’t get salmonella from a stray bacteria from the chicken embryos. As for the dosage of the Thimerosal. That is the most laughable point in this post. It says 25 mcg, that’s micrograms, or one millionth of a gram. To put this in perspective, a dollar bill weighs roughly 1 gram, the average human eyelash is around 80-90 micrograms. The box also says that it contains a 5ml (milliliter/cc) vial which leads me to my next point.

A little simple math and we find out that 25 mcg = 0.00003 ml and a little more math we find that 0.00003 ml is 0.00006% of 5 ml. Let me put this another way. By the age of 5, an American child weighs about 50-55lbs and their body contains 55 mcg of Uranium. I don’t see any kids running around with radiation sickness, so I think they’re safe with a preservative in them. TL;DR: This is like saying you don’t want your child eating their baked birthday cake because raw eggs were used to make it and you don’t want your child getting salmonella from it.

Crap Rikki says in the evil within I’m sure the evil within was meant to be a serious game.

(All events, except the first, is based on my gameplay in the evil within. It’s also why Sebastian is so out of character .^^ Also my sister came up with the idea of detective glasses.)

TOO FUNNY AND CUTEEEE OMG

can we talk about Legolas in the back tho

I feel like I need to rewatch the entire series just focusing on Legolas.

It’s worth it.

The best part of this post is Orlando Bloom literally had no idea what was going on 95% of the time. He said in an interview once that no one ever told him anything and he just stood in the back ground making faces.
