My area is grossly over-shopped, with an enormous amount of collectors and sellers etc. I don’t begrudge any of them but it makes for very slim, boring shopping these days. This gorgeous vintage cardi somehow slipped through. Pristine, definitely mid century, and just arrestingly good craftwork. Look at those pockets. Not a single goddamn seam. I haven’t posted in a while because, you know, COVID. But I just got a batch of shirts from @luxire_com and they’re too good not to share. I’ve been a Luxire customer for years — earlier in my feed I visited their factory in Bangalore. This year I worked closely with them to really dial in the fit and finishing details. And I think we are finally there. Just take in the roll on that collar, the hand linked shoulder, yoke and arm hole, shirring, zampa gallina button fastening, bar tacks ... really top notch. There are, essentially, four different patterns: solid, dot, stripe and plaid/check. (Yes and chevron and houndstooth, but the former is quite rare (the Royal Artillery regimental being an exception) and the latter can be treated either as a plaid or a dot. Classic menswear shirting and jacketing Is limited to solid, stripe and check (and stripes are exclusively for suits, not separates). While neckwear runs the gamut. Trousers, as separates, are generally worn as solids. And of course pocket squares defy classification entirely, running from paisley and dots to dogs and bombshells. Patterns vary in scale — from small, tight and subtle, to large, loose and loud — and they complexity— from monochrome to multi color. (Plus texture. But that’s another article...) That’s the key. Stylishly blending multiple patterns will vary those elements (dots with stripes), scale (large with small) and complexity ( simple with ornate). A good rule of thumb with color is pair the major color of one with the minor color of the other — ie, the dominant color of your tie can match the minor color of your square. Overall, always aim to whisper, not shout. Take the photo with a large loud stripe with large , intense plaid jacket. Although the colors work together, to my eye it doesn’t come together.
