The People's Bard

The People's Bard travels the internet looking for stories worth retelling in song. You'll most likely find him singing for strangers on reddit or YouTube.

Hi! An artist friend and I recently finished a musical Choose Your Own Adventure, and we’re looking for heroes to help King Greg. Just go to that link, listen to track 1, and the adventure begins! After most tracks, you will be asked to make a decision, which will determine which song you listen to next. The way can be dangerous, so you'll have to rely on your companions: Peg-leg, a pony with a limp and incredible courage, and Exsaladbar, a pacifist sword with a sharp wit. Be careful, friends. Some decisions are better than others...

Me: I want to touch your skin like a musician touches piano keys.
You: For how long?
Me: Until I write a song.

I wrote this song years ago, before the CI project began–before I was smart enough to realize I wanted to write songs every day. It was written for an old roommate, George, after the real scene detailed in the intro took place. Because this song is about finding love–filling your life with light–I devote it to these blogs: bby-leen and itswhatourheartsareallmadeof (for good thoughts on love in general), temporarynostalgia (because your blog is beautiful and because I want to tell you that you don’t have to wait to find him), onbeingcheesyandpathetic (because that’s what this song is being, really), and lastly to commutermusic (because of your blog’s originality!).  Enjoy everyone! – K.C.

     Do I Need A Lamp?

George, you need a light but not the bulbed kind. Don’t just get a lamp at Wal-mart because it’s discount priced. You need a lantern lady to brighten up your days. You’ll see soon enough, you’ll see in the dark. If you find a girl of one million watts. You need a lantern lady to brighten up your days. Don’t hesitate, don’t wait, everyone is looking. And it won’t be long until all the good lights are taken. Find a lantern lady to brighten up your days. Come on everyone, let’s shed our light on each other. We don’t need lamps made in factories in China. Come on everyone, shed your light.

     You Oughta Be My Otter

You're tired of stallions leaving you in the lurch. But I ain't like other birds; I'm happy on a perch. Most men are cheetahs, and they want to run around, but fish in the sea bore me; I want solid ground.

You oughta be my otter; I'm a damn good goose. I'm steady as a rock; I ain't fast and loose. You oughta be my otter; you oughta take my hand 'cause I ain't like any other man.

You aren't impressed by apes banging on their chest. Well, I want to use these hands of mine to build us a nest. Most men are roosters, cockadoodledooing at tail, but I want to drop anchor, not set sail. CHORUS

Don't ask me if I saw her boobs. Don't ask me if I like a size two. Don't ask me who I would do: I don't want a hot woman; I want you.

Don't ask me Upton or Moss. Don't say "Look!" and sex scene pause. Don't ask who I beat off to: I don't want a hot woman; I want you.

Can't you see you'll always be enough for me? Can't you see I'm too ugly to score a hottie?

Don't ask me if you look fat. Don't ask me if your sister's all that. Don't ask me if I want someone new. I don't want a hot woman; I want you.
