Does anyone

have like an exhaustive master source for clothes/garments worn in China throughout every century? It can be either a link or a book i’ll have to buy. It also doesn’t have to be every century or every piece if clothing, I just want a good place to start. Preferably not from a blog, but i’ll still look at them.

I want to make clothes for an oc but I want to know exactly what i’m drawing and its significance/lack of significance/etc

The historical Chinese fashion community on Tumblr is actually quite active.

Comprehensive Historical Chinese Fashion Blogs

  • Ziseviolet - The best introduction to Hanfu culture on Tumblr and probably the entire English-speaking internet—very thorough.
  • FourYearsOfShade - Educational hanfu content, like analyzing hanfu trends and their historical precedents.
  • AudreyDoesKaren - Her periods of expertise are Ming Dynasty to mid-20th Century China (1360s - 1960s). Very in-depth blog. I would advise perusing her blog after acquiring a general knowledge of historical Chinese fashion from the first two blogs listed.

This timeline by Nancy Duong is also very handy.

2022 MUSIC REPLAY
I thought it would be fun to share my years music play through since I tend to loop songs and associate them with things I draw. These were my top five for the year.

OC Winter Wear!!

I wanted to draw them in seasonal outfits just for fun so I started off with winter. Bonus how each of them handles gift giving/gift wrapping

Zenith: His winter outfit is pretty simple, he doesn’t need a lot of layers because he actually likes the crisp winter air. The scarf he wears just so that Nico has an extra if he needs. His gift wrapping includes a shitty tape job with the cardboard box peeping out bc he didn’t measure the wrapping paper before he started.
Maria: Her winter style is very European chic and elegant. Her gift wrapping style matches as she always gifts a nice wine in a bag to make it easier for the receiver to carry around bc a broke bottle of wine is a no no.
Lucas: His winter wear mostly consists of a heavy coat that consumes his tall lanky body. Lucas can’t read so that fragile sticker means nothing to him. He doesn’t wrap his gifts he gives them to you in the same box he ordered it in and haphazardly scribbles his shipping address off bc that somehow makes it better?? Also he probably stepped on it by accident..
James: Of course his style is the latest fashion and he is very generous with his gifts bc his wallet is bottomless apparently. James obviously doesn’t wrap his own, he gets it professionally done at the store bc it’s already paid for ¯\_(ツ)_/¯
Nhi: Winter means lots of layers and that means lots of cute clothes! Nhi accessorizes her outfits to the max during Christmas time. She probably has a ton of wrapping paper for all occasions to fit the person she is giving gifts to and everything has to be topped off with a super cute bow just like her.
Tien & Eli: They wear matching puffy jackets and scarves. Eli’s ugly sweater is very proudly showcased and the LED hat he stole from Chandler. As for their gift wrapping style they only have one wrapping paper and it’s not the right occasion. Tien Franken-wraps multiple boxes into one mass and Eli slaps his name onto the gift with duct tape to take credit for work he did not do. Classic.
