The sloped back is an adaption to living in swamps and flooded forests; it helps them keep their head above water when swimming or wading as well as dragging themselves or prey up from the water, and if there’s an enough angle, climb trees and other things to avoid the water completely.

On the flip side, while they share a few traits with hyenas including the sloped back, cireks do not have great stamina - their legs and feet are not built for  persistence hunting (and it wouldn’t be effective in the densely vegetated and wet landscape they inhabit anyway). The long legs are also a bit of a hindrance in an ambush style of hunting. To counter this the cireks’ technique when hunting (especially larger prey) rely heavily on co-operation between several individuals and intelligence, using knowledge of both the prey and the area to their advantage.They need to be both cunning and opportunistic to survive but while they do hunt regularly they are in fact omnivorous.
