The Löwenmensch Figurine or Lion Man of the Hohlenstein Stadel was discovered in a cave in Germany in 1939 and is the oldest zoomorphic sculpture in the world, believed to be 40,000 years old. It was carved from woolly mammoth ivory with a flint stone knife.
