Hi there! What books/ things do you suggest for someone who is barely starting out in witchcraft? Thanks!

Hey anon. This question really depends on what your interests in witchcraft are. Are you looking for Wicca or a more secular craft? I will list the books that I started out with. Most are Wiccan, but I have and you can eliminate the Wiccan aspects from those sources.

By Scott Cunningham:

- Earth Power: Techniques of Natural Magic- Earth Air Fire Water: More Techniques of Natural Magic- The Complete Book Of Incense, Oils, and Brews- Encyclopedia of Magical Herbs

These babies are filled with natural and folk magic. They are from a Wiccan standpoint, and so have little to do with curses other than warnings against them.

By Kate West: (the Real Witches’ series)

- The Real Witches’ Handbook- The Real Witches’ Kitchen- The Real Witches’ Garden- The Real Witches’ Book of Spells and Rituals- The Real Witches’ Craft

Again these are from a Wiccan perspective, but contain fantastic information. The Real Witches’ Craft in particular is fantastic in starting your witchcraft journey all the way through to more advanced subjects like astral projection etc. (Disclaimer: Kate West explains that by ‘Real Witch’ she is not implying that this is the only way to be a real witch, but rather that her books are about being a witch in the real world, living in the world and being part of the real world, and not allowing witchcraft to become your whole life.)

- The Encyclopedia of Magickal Ingredients by Lexa Roséan- The Element Encyclopedia of 5000 Spells by Judika Illes- The Element Encyclopedia of Witchcraft by Judika Illes

These are books that I obtained early on in my witchcraft journey, and I’ve found them immensely helpful, and still find myself referring back to them constantly.

The Witch is the sacred Yew Tree, never dying, always shedding her skin like the serpent so she may ever live on in one form or another. There is no unbroken lineage, no unbroken witchcraft tradition in history. There is only Witchcraft itself, a wild thing that can never be caught and contained but insists on its wildness and on constant transformation, constant death and rebirth (as with all things in nature). Witchcraft is a survivor. Witchcraft mocks our definitions, divisions, tidy boxes, and white-washing, leaving a trail of feathers and bones through forest and city alike.

I got this incredibily beautiful deck in today: The Starchild Tarot and it’s all thanks to the amazing and sweet lady that themerrymagician is! Seriously, this deck is some quality stuff. The cards feel so sturdy and the colours are simply gorgeous. It’s soft and sweet, just what I like! I haven’t done my first read with it yet, but I will tonight or tommorow. Today felt like Christmas, haha. Thank you so much, themerrymagician! I love you, babe. ♥ It’s gorgeous and so so pretty! Definately a prize piece in the collection. Will be cherishing this one! Hope you all had a wonderful day like I did, lovelies. ♥
