I guess, you’ve already heard of what’s happening in Belarus. It’s awful and so heartbreaking.

Shortly about the situation: The results of the elections were rigged by the incumbent President Lukashenko, although in fact the majority of votes were cast for the candidate Tikhanovskaya. As a result, the people took to the streets to achieve fair elections or real results.

The police there is literally going crazy now: they beat, maim and kill people who came out to peaceful protest. Moreover, they use stun grenades, tear gas and rubber bullets.

Many people are arrested or repressed by the government. What is more, due to the government order, all Internet and cellular is going to be banned in Minsk and close territories.

Police uses ambulance as the “Trojan Horse” for getting closer to protestors and then arresting them or smth.

I know Romania isn't well known by most of you, and I know this isn't as important as what is currently happening in America, but please take a moment to learn and spread information about the current issue faced by romanian lgbtq+ people.

As a response to attempts to introduce sexual education in schools, the senate is trying to pass a law making it illegal to mention "gender identity" in academic spaces. According to this law, schools and universities alike would be banned from discussing "gender, understood as something different from biological sex".

Not only is this a bigoted law and an attempt to bring censorship in academic spaces, but it also creates issues for universities which offer master programs based on gender studies. Through this law, university programs based on gender equality or gender studies would be banned.

Just wanted to say that the president of Poland Andrzej Duda just signed smthg called “Karta Rodziny”, which basically states that the only true family and marriage is that of heterosexual people, further doubling down on refusing marriage equality and adoption. It will “save children from alien and harmful LGBT ideology” by baning public institutions of mentioning the “LGBT ideology”.

The things happening over in america are horrendous, but also making way for changes for the better. They’re making the whole world have a discussion about racism still woven into our societies.

But please. It’s pride month. My country, my people need this to be on the lips of the world.

the current government of Poland is very fond of the expression “LGBT ideology”, which sets up queer people as a bogeyman to scare up support for far-right parties. Duda is up for reelection this year and he’s clearly following the playbook to the letter. the insidious thing about Karta Rodziny is that it contains some positive ideas, like state protections for single parents and higher penalties for domestic violence… as well as “a ban on promoting LGBT ideology by public institutions”[1]. so if you protest Karta Rodziny, the gov’t and state-controlled media will absolutely claim you ~just want single parents to die~ and ~love domestic abusers~.

[1]: no queer-inclusive sex education at schools, for one. there’s been a push for better sex ed and a counter-push by far-right, anti-choice groups for NO sex ed.

I would also add here Grupa Stonewall (Stonewall Group) which is an association based in Poznań (so not the capital city for once). They provide unpaid psychological assistance to LGBTQ+ people in need, they have a youth group (which I used to attend when I was still living in Poznań, I highly recommend it, I have only positive memories connected with it), a separate group for trans people, another group for bi people and another one for parents of queer people. They organize the march in Poznań which is very fabulous. They provide work-environment diversity&inclusion workshops. Plus they support Ukrainian LGBTQ+ people in Poznań, trying to overcome the language barrier, which is very, very important. They also organized Akademia Równości (Academy of Equality) last year, a project during which they went to small towns which don’t have their own LGBTQ+ organizations in order to talk about being non-cishetero in our lovely country.

They are very much inclusive to asexual people, pansexual people and non-binary people which was a novelty when they set up their organization and still remains a novelty among some Polish LGBT organizations. (If you want examples, I can provide.)

This is the best video IMO that displays the depth of what it feels like to be Black in the midst of white supremacy.

This is the rage that burns in so many Black people and eats at us when it is not sufficiently soothed by our self restraint and years of learning to cope with and sit with us. This is the pain that shortens Black people’s very lives, that we smother each day. This is the justified yet unjustly ignored anger we have learned to hold and to aim and to deal with without breaking (too much).

This is the fire that those of you who are just showing up on the scene are learning to sit beside.

When you ask us ‘how we’re doing’, understand that this is the real core of it, every single day, and we have had to learn to laugh, to sing, to dance, to work, to grieve, to heal around heavy, heavy pain. I don’t get the feeling that y’all are expecting nor could you handle if we answered you like this. But I do feel like you should already know how we’re doing: we’re Black.

So y’all, sit with this video for a hot minute.
