that ship is toxic to YOU. to me it's a complex, multi-layered, essay-worthy dynamic that'd take numerous hours to dissect (during which i'll spend crying screaming tearing my hair out)

when growing up me and my dad and my brother played a game at Home Depot called “Don’t let me see you while I shop.” The rules were that I had to follow my dad around the huge Home Depot but be out of sight the whole time. This game was extremely fun for me for some reason (we also called it the “Super Spy game”) and extremely useful for my dad.

Anyway, later on I realized I could just wonder off and not necessarily follow him around and still win. This is the story of how I used to go directly into the Home Depot lights section and just immediately dissociate like I entered a fairy wonder land for hours on end.

In short:

me:

childhood truly is a special time.

Can I just say how in love I am with AMC’s Interview with the Vampire version of Lestat??

The show’s creator mentioned how different Lestat is from Interview with a Vampire to The Vampire Lestat, due to the nine year’s gap between publishing dates and Rice’s own evolving affection for her “brat prince”. And it’s SO evident that Show Lestat is not the one Louis spoke about in 1973 in the IWTV book, but the one Louis can speak about now after many years (and many more books) of reflection.

He’s impatient and short-tempered and entirely too focused on living his life as pleasurably as possible. But he’s also passionate and honest and entirely in love with Louis.

He was lonely and isolated and then came Louis, someone who fills every chamber of his heart in a way bloodlust can’t. His entire purpose in life becomes making Louis feel cherished, feel important, feel loved. He showers him with compliments and sweet touches and just wants Louis to belong to him as much as he already belong to Louis. For Louis to never leave him the way he’s been left before.

It comes across as so encompassing, Lestat’s love - and sometimes suffocating.

Lestat’s already eight feet deep whereas Louis is barely scratching the surface. He’s only just learning who he is as a Black, queer man, let alone a Black, queer vampire. He struggles with his anger and his morality and needs someone to lead him gently, to be patient. But Lestat wants to live this “vampire romance”, where the two of them rule the night and feast and make love and live an eternity as each other’s other half. And when that fantasy is disrupted, he responds with violent heartbreak, an intense fear at the thought of not having Louis with him forever.

I’m so excited to see how they progress, that devolution that’s inevitable. Lestat does not yet know how to love without coveting. It’s going to be a hard lesson to learn.

Absolutely inconsolable at Dracula moving to London for two months, immediately fucking up his world domination plans, saying "oh well, sometimes it just doesn't go your way" and booking it back to Transylvania. He bought so much property and kidnapped a solicitor and read train timetables and learned English FOR WHAT.

I love Renfield's logic btw "I'd heard madmen are super strong and I'm FUCKING CRAZY so I bet I could take him." King shit.

I’m so upset I’m so upset because we immortalize Renfield as Dracula’s bug-eating minion. Dracula’s faithful servant. But do you know what he did? HE DIED PROTECTING MINA. He was the only one protecting Mina at the time. He died trying to selflessly protect somebody because they were kind to him. Because they treated him like a person. Because he couldn’t stand the idea of them being slowly drained and killed. He physically fought Dracula and it cost him his life. And maybe it’s just because I don’t know my Dracula adaptations all that well…but I don’t think how Renfield actually dies is talked about enough. I don’t think it’s appreciated how, here is somebody who believed they could prolong their life by consuming other lives…but in the end he GAVE his life for another.

Mina is:

- transcribing the ENTIRETY of dracula by herself on a manual typewriter (that someone who knows more about typewriters than me pointed out you can’t actually see what you’re typing on until you’re finished)

- she’s translating the entirety of dracula from shorthand and podcast format (and the podcast may or may not include silly voices)

- she is compiling all the transcribed parts with the letters from her, Lucy, Johnathan and various solicitors and moving companies as well as various newspaper clippings and sorting them all in chronological order to form a timeline

- she is doing this IN DUPLICATE making at least three copies of everything so that the information can be read through by everyone at once

- she is also interviewing key people for more information

- while doing this she is ALSO acting as emotional support for her traumatised husband, the fiancé and the two other guys who proposed to her best friend, who just died horribly and traumatically, while she’s dealing with the death of her best friend herself

“Just some secretarial work” my arse. Mina is the most important character in this book. This group would be NOTHING without her.

I think it’s such a shame Bram Stoker didn’t write Dracula thinking about what the update schedule would be like when it got serialized over a century later for Tumblr. I mean if he’s such a genius why didn’t he realize he should have stuck to Mondays, Wednesdays, and Fridays? :/
