This has been a super productive year for me, though not in the ways I expected: I made exactly 0 comics, BUT I completed over 100 paintings—31 robots; 31 anime food paintings; 31 anime vehicles; various other stuff... Plus I drew 28 animals, 30 botanical drawings, designed two t-shirts, and probably did some other stuff I’m forgetting about. 🍱🤖🌿🌺🐢🦌🚂🛵

What I’m most excited about, though, is the blog I started with my cousin, Icebergs! Since July, we’ve somehow written something like... 250 pages about queerness in Legend of Galactic Heroes, and it’s like the most intellectually rewarding thing I’ve ever done. So if you’ve ever considered watching Legend of Galactic Heroes, and if you’re interested in the queer layers that are present throughout all 110 (!!) OVA episodes (+ 52 gaiden episodes), now is a great time to start watching along with us~ We’ve done posts for the first 29 episodes so far. 📝😬👍🚀

OH, and I also started JoJo’s Bizarre Explainer, a podcast about JoJo’s Bizarre Adventure, with two of my good friends in Portland! We’re already several episodes into Stardust Crusaders, so ALL of Phantom Blood and Battle Tendency are already available for your listening pleasure. We’re making it specifically for people who are new to JJBA so there’s no need to already be a JoJo’s fan~ 😎🎙 🎶 

In the new year, I’m gonna continue doing my monthly-ish drawing challenges, and my podcast, and my queer LoGH commentary, and my t-shirt series (as long as my Patreon stays at the goal!), and HOPEFULLY a new monthly sticker series. I’m around $100 away from that goal on Patreon so if you’re interested in helping me get there, go contribute please!! There are other cool goals in the future too once I pass that one....

A couple years ago, I was asked by the talented Hazel Newlevant to participate in Chainmail Bikini: The Anthology of Women Gamers, and I decided to make a comic out of some material I’d left on the cutting room floor while working on Manic Pixel Dream Girl. The result, which I’m making available online for the first time in honor of World Mental Health Day 2017, was Manic Pixel Dream Girl Gaiden: Guitar Heroine, a short comic about (a very small portion of) my experiences living with OCD.

And to talk a bit about mental health real quick/give you a brief epilogue: A year and a half after the events of MPDGG:GH, I started medication for OCD. After some tinkering, I landed on Zoloft (also known as sertraline), which I’ve been taking successfully for eight years now. I still experience (some) OCD symptoms, but they no longer control my life, leaving me free to focus on the people and things and cats I actually care about. Please, if you have untreated mental illness, do your best to get treatment!!! I know it can be super tough (expensive, stressful, etc) but it’s really really worth it to do all that you can to get better. You’re not alone and there are people who know how to help you, and want to.
