Anaesthesia Lab!
Here are some pictures of the amazing models that the university uses as teaching tools. The two models showed above were used to practice catheterizing cephalic veins and intubating dogs. The aim of the models is to practise and familiarise ourselves with procedures before attempting them on real life patients!
So… this is the coolest thing that’s appeared on my dashboard for a long time! So excited for you Liv x
This female spayed Maltese puppy decided she wanted to pull a carpet apart and eat it! The owner had pulled out a long length of yarn from the mouth, but didn’t think to check if it matched the missing bit of carpet. Two days later, the owner noticed that she was still vomiting, and could not keep down any food.
The xrays showed a big stomach with a soft tissue opacity inside it, which was consistent with the pain in the cranial abdomen on physical examination.
For reference, the bag of carpet retrieved from the gastrotomy weighed 230g, and the puppy weighed less than 6kg!

"A woman came in for a baby check with her 6-month-old and she had what looked like chocolate milk in the baby’s bottle. So he started explaining to her as kindly as he could that she shouldn’t be giving her baby chocolate milk. At which point she interrupts him and says, ‘Oh that isn’t chocolate milk. It’s coffee! He just loves it!”
"I had a patient come in for an STD check. She was very upset and continued to tell me that she only had one partner. Progressing through my assessment, she further divulged that even if he was sleeping with other people it shouldn’t matter ‘because he uses a condom every time and he makes sure to wash it thoroughly after every use’.”
"Had a lady who measured her baby’s temperature by pre-heating the oven and putting one hand in front of it while the other hand was on the baby’s forehead. She told the nurse her baby’s fever was about 250 degrees.”

Urogenital system of the Blue-fronted Amazon 作者 AnkatsArt These Illustrations are part of a project about the arteficial insemination of birds. For this project I illustrated the birds themselves, their skeletons, their urogenitalsystems and the process of the arteficial insemination executed by a team of veterinarians. I used the Blue-fronted Amazon as an example because it is a common pet parrot. But the new method of arteficial insemination was especially developed for very rare species like the Spix’s Macaw. Nonetheless the method can be adapted to a lot of other birds.
