Here is a clip from My Own Private River. It shows River’s character, Mike, walking through a supermarket and buying some food.

It sounds like it should be really boring and mundane, but this is one of my favourite scenes from MOPR.

I love River’s energy throughout the entire scene, I love how he marches through the store and picks up random things but he doesn’t make it look random, he makes it seem intentional.

I love that he’s calling out to someone we don’t know and can’t see. ‘How about next week sometime?, ‘Give me a call!’, River shouts!

I love that at one point River breaks a basic rule of filmmaking and looks right into the camera!

I love that he tells the cashier lady that he doesn’t need a bag, and then promptly drops some of his shopping!!!

I hope you, River friend, will love all these things, and so much more from this scene.

River lives!!!

(Please note; I am sharing this today, on the 21st anniversary of River’s death, as I know so, so many River friends and fans are desperate to see some of this film. While I’ll never upload the entire movie to stream online, I figure that as there’s actually no copyright attached or mentioned anywhere in James Franco’s book (which my DVD copy of My Own Private River came with) and as there’s nothing before the film saying to not share, copy, etc, I think it will be okay to share short clips. (I’m sure some people will say, well if there’s no copyright disclaimer anywhere, why not share the full movie? But, I just feel uncomfortable doing this. Clips are okay, but not the full movie, in my opinion!)

Also, when I first bought the book with the film, I shared a short clip on Instagram and tagged James Franco. He liked the post and started following me! If there was a major issue with that, I’m sure he would have done something about it. I met him in person the day I posted that clip at his Psycho Nacimera exhibition, he recognised me, knew it was my Instagram, and was all like “Heeeyy! (big Franco smile!) so again, if he didn’t want a clip online, he would and could have said to me then and there. So, yes, I am thinking these short clips will be okay.)
