This advertisement from IHOP’s certified Twitter account was taken down within hours of posting, and the company released an apology within two hours that read:

“Earlier today we tweeted something dumb and immature that does not reflect what IHOP stands for. We’re sorry.”

Referring to pancakes as flat is a perfectly normal claim. Applying personification to food is also commonplace in the social media marketing industry, as it lends a humorous personality to an otherwise boring corporate marketing campaign. The copywriter behind the post likely had innocent intentions and came up with this post using the same process he or she used for hundreds of other posts before it. However, this is a perfect example of a tasteless social media faux pas that created a severe backlash that did more harm than good to the brand’s public image.

The post itself personifies tastelessness more than anything else. By pairing a highly suggestive image with incredibly offensive copy, IHOP effectively told the world that they find misogyny humourous. The brand received the negative backlash of the highly sensitive collective voice of the Internet within minutes and business likely suffered accordingly. As far as I’m concerned, they deserved every inch of animosity they had thrown at them because of this blatant display of idiocy. And as a social media marketer myself, I’m offended that someone allowed this to be posted on an account as large as IHOP’s.

Why are feminists so weak? If you don’t like the joke, great, but some of us got a smile out of it.

I’m eating at IHOP later because of this, for sure. They shouldn’t have to apologize.

Boy howdy have you got that right. Get a fucking grip you offense-addicted diaper babies.

The reach is greater than the Hubble telescope’s.

For fuck’s sake, I wasn’t offended by this and I’m like… the prime target of this joke

Okay… I read all of this and I still don’t get the joke… someone fill me on this one? Is my mind not going dirty enough or something?

It’s likening a pancake to a woman who has so little breast tissue that her chest is flat, but saying that her personality more that makes up for that. Because looking past superficial appearances is bad I guess.

Is this what female fragility looks like?

I don’t ever want to hear that non-white actors should be playing white roles. If new adaptations should stay true to the original character and to the original creators intent (and the should, with very few exceptions), then in addition to stuff like this we also need to stop changing the race of white characters. Unless, of course, the intent isn’t to stay true to anything and all you people want is to promote race quotas and the idea that a person’s race is what we should be judging them on first. If that’s the case, then just keep doing what you’re already doing.

i don’t trust like that

extremely sus, OP

oh for fuck’s sake

IT HAS ABSOLUTELY NOTHING TO DO WITH HER BEING PLAYED BY A BLACK ACTRESS

lol then say that then. why are you so angry you fuckin weirdo. its understandable that a bunch of black people are looking at this extremely suspicious post, suspiciously.

Her costume design is fucking atrocious. That’s what this post was about. My original post wasn’t angry, it was making fun of her awful costume design. Everything about her costume is tacky as fuck.

So, why was I angry in my response to you? I don’t know, maybe because you and these other losers low-key implied that I was racist? Did that thought not cross your mind?

Like my dude this costume is god awful, and then hiding behind the the race card is just cowardly.

You know what else is cowardly? Deleting all of their reblogs and then blocking me. Which is exactly what roidcel here just did.

I notice it was only the Starfire one, and not the Robin one.

>lol then say that then. why are you so angry you fuckin weirdo. its understandable that a bunch of black people are looking at this extremely suspicious post, suspiciously.

There’s plenty of black people who have criticized the design, including me, roidcel. Many people have asked why they didn’t get a black actress who actually looks more like the character, though I have little doubt that someone like you would make cowardly ,passive-aggressive implications about colorism.

I mean undoubtedly there will be racists out there who hate her because she’s black, then there’s the rest of us that legitimately just hate the costume design, and literally everything else. Honestly the entire show is just screaming Teen Titans Go… shopping at hot topic.

OP: *dosn’t mention or even indicate race*

Tumblr goblins: Ummm…this racist.

> lol then say that then. why are you so angry you fuckin weirdo. its understandable that a bunch of black people are looking at this extremely suspicious post, suspiciously.

People shouldn’t have to explain this shit to you.

The fact that YOU saw the race first honestly SCREAMS about your insecurities as a person, that YOU lack all confidence in yourself.

The only reason you assumed it was racist like the ass you are is because you’re blind to your own lack of confidence in yourself.

Maybe, if you see this as about race first, you should absolutely go work on yourself before you jump to conclusions about others, because it’s clear that y’all need it.

If you’re the one bringing race into everything maybe you’re the problem.

Not about race dipshits it’s just that they look like they put zero effort into making looking like the actual star fire gamora is played by a black actress and they made her look like the actual character
