haven’t seen this on tumblr yet, and tis the season

god now I’m all feelings about camp like…. camp is the queer declaration to Look At Me, it’s proclaiming that being Seen and Noticed is important above all else, it’s that Ostentatious is always better than pretty, but it’s not serious, it’s not only in on the joke, it’s creating the joke… and I think that’s why it’s so tied up in queer and trans cultures, because queer and trans bodies, mannerisms, presences are already so often a joke, and camp takes that and amplifies it but in doing so turns it around… yes, I Am the joke, but I’m also the audience, and don’t you feel left out now? aren’t you jealous now? haven’t we just robbed you of the satisfaction of laughing at us by laughing first? where are you in this equation now? nowhere, I’m too covered in glitter and nonsense to even find you anymore.
