Holler Shelp lovers and FYSheltie followers!
Shakespeare just celebrated his 16th birthday.
I’d love to tell you that he is doing great but he is very clearly very old, despite his boyish good looks.
He can’t really walk so well, never mind about standing up on his own. He is a slow moving guy. He gets Sub-Q 2x a week for his kidneys. He is still on seizure meds since that last time. Right now he has some sort of an eye infection that we are putting in drops for. He definitely is entering the doggie dementia world where he has confused day and night.
He has good days and bad days,
When the days are good, he is interactive and present. He begs for food at dinner time and follows you around the house. He can even still do a few commands. He lets us know when things are wrong (like a slipper is in his favorite laying spot or a pot of water is boiling on the stove.
But when his days are bad, it is very hard on me because I know a decision will have to come at some point in the future. I choose not to think about that at the moment.
He is a tough old coot though and much like the energizer bunny he keeps on going. And I love him to pieces.
