Who’s ready for some madness Prepare yourselves. First Preliminary Round begins soon…

What is this: Dinosaur March Madness, our annual competition to see which dinosaur is the Best!

What’s new about this year: I’ve implemented seeding so things will probably be more fair.

Also, there will be two Bird prelims: a week where you vote for your favorite bird families, and then a week where you vote for a specific bird in that family, so maybe I don’t have to, I dunno, parse through a bunch of fill-in votes for once.

Will I be able to vote for dinosaurs that have been in competitions past? Nope, sorry. It’s only the third DMM, give some more obscure dinosaurs a chance

I don’t know what half these words mean  Don’t worry, I’ll provide guides when voting for the contestants. It’s not your job to know what these words mean.

Can I vote? Absolutely. Anyone who wants to can participate. All you need is a Google account (so I can ensure 1 person = 1 vote). You don’t even have to be a part of Palaeoblr, or a Tumblr user, to vote. Anyone can!

What are the prelims?  The weeks where we pick which dinosaurs we want for each category. The names up there are groups of dinosaurs, not specific ones

Why isn’t there a final two round?  Because there isn’t. The winner is picked from the final four. This is the way it’s always been, but new people tend to get confused, so here is that answer!

CAN I CAMPAIGN FOR A DINOSAUR?!  Yes I encourage it!!! That’s half the fun. Please tag any posts with #Dmm2018 :D

Please REBLOG this post and spread it around! It’s time to get HYPE!

Therapists aren’t people who you “pay to pretend to care about you”, therapists are people you pay to teach you how to care for yourself

Me: I am violently depressed.

Therapist: Oh! Sounds like you need to do YOGA! That will help!

Me: *signs up for yoga*

Me: *is violently depressed in Downward Dog*

Me: I hate myself and only see my flaws

Therapist: ok lets refocus on things you like about yourself. This week i want you to try and journal about good things you’ve for yourself and others.

Me: *does the homework* yeah but i still hate myself but feel bad cause i shouldn’t

Therapist: feeling like you shouldn’t hate yourself is a step in the right direction. Mental health is complex and isn’t something that will ~magically~ improve. We have a lot of hard work head of us but I’ll be here to help you.

TL;DR stop perpetuating the idea that therapy is unhelpful because the results are not instantaneous.

FUCKING THIS.

As a psychologist the amount of bullshit on this site, the amount of fucking dangerous bullshit on this site about how therapy is neurotypical bullshit and isn’t worth it and how exercise is pointless and good diet is pointless and that therapy homework is pointless DRIVES ME UP THE FUCKING WALL

Exercise is fucking important. good diet is fucking important therapy is fucking important. WHY???

because pills alone don’t help. they improve the hormonal imbalance (as does exercise and good diet which ALSO are a form of very real self care as your physical being is sorta connected to your mental one but go fucking figure right?), but guess what? the suicidal thoughts, the thoughts of harm, the thoughts of hating yourself, they’re still there.  suicides actually increase when medicated.  why? because suddenly you have the energy to fulfill thoughts of harming yourself.  which is why you NEED therapy alongside pills.

it has taken you years, or decades to create your maladaptive thought processes and behaviours.  that shit doesn’t disappear overnight. core beliefs don’t change overnight. these are the very fucking core of your personhood, your being and personality. THAT TAKES TIME TO CHANGE

STOP ACTING LIKE THERAPY IS SHIT IF IT DOESNT WORK IN TWO SESSIONS

My boyfriend signed up for an Economics class last semester that had a professor who was described by other students on Rate My Professors as “a little offensive but still funny” and “you will still learn if you do the work and attend his workshops.” On the first day of class, he pointed to an Asian girl next to him.

“Are you Chinese?” he asked.

She looked bewildered and said, “Yes…?”

“How do you feel about the One Child Policy?”

The entire class went silent.

She glared at him, “I’m American.”

He shrugged it off, “Yeah, but you’re Chinese. So how do you feel about being the only child in your family?”

When I peruse through class lists, one of the very first things I want to know is whether or not I will be in a safe environment with a professor who cares about their students. Rate My Professors is the most commonly used tool for students to decide whether or not a professor is right for their learning style. It’s a tool for students created by students. But when such tools actively work against students who want to give proper warning about professors, what does that tell you? Does RMP care about student safety? Or is it doing everything in its power to protect corrupt educators? Should students compile a list of corrupt professors to combat RMP’s new policy if they don’t reverse this rule?

The Chinese woman and the rest of the students had to endure a semester filled with violent racist, sexist, and classist rhetoric (he later humiliated a student for 15 minutes for having an old Ford—what he described as a “loser car”) with a professor who only taught outside of class hours instead of during class hours. There are many more stories like this one because students pay for a class they weren’t expecting.

Because students can’t say “racist and sexist”, people have opted for “problematic” with examples as well as synonyms. You can contact them here to ask them to change their policy.

i GENUINELY would like you all to look at the kakapo, this BEAUTIFUl, gorgeous, outstanding, wonderful bird…….

….and who is sadly the butt of so many jokes in the bird community, because its the worlds only flightless parrot :((((( the poor baby’s wings are too small and its too heavy to fly

Image

BUT IT CAN CLIMB REAL GOOD!!!

i think one of my fave things about this bird tho is the fact that because the kakapo can’t fly

their feathers are actually extremely soft compared to other parrots, who need stiff feathers for flight

1 like = 1 valid, soft kakapo

A BABY

[a wonderful milkmaiden]: Mrrmeow? [the milkmaiden]: Mrrpmeow? [an entity of the shadow]: (emerges from the shade) [the delightful maiden]:Mrrp? [the entity] ]: (bravely breaks the boundary of the shadow, bravely impeaches it and passes the border of the realm of light in order to be joined with the brave milkmaiden.) [the entity]: (A high-pitched “mmrp!” of delight) [the wonderful milkmaiden]: (She decides that this footage is sufficient. The camera man is instantly murdered upon impact.)

I’ve seen Horny Internet Fangirls fall physically in lust with everything from standard hunks to weird cartoons to robots to monsters and every body type from potbelly bear to skeletal beanpole and it never fails to amaze me, when by comparison, straight guys seem to have trouble with any woman who isn’t hourglass shaped
