Try (You x Wei)
Honestly, you'd heard about them before. You knew certain things about them. About how they feed, how they run, how they live.
Well, if you can call it living.
"Class, today we have a new student who will be joining us."
Your attention stayed on the pale, wooden desk that you sat at. New students didn't interest you in the slightest- it's not like they would show any interest in you either. The door creaked open and footsteps echoed throughout the silent room.
"Hello, I'm Lee Sungjun but you can call me Wei."
The voice was smooth and soft which caused your head to snap up. At the front of the classroom stood a tall, lean boy. He had dark brown hair that hung just above his chocolate-like eyes. Flawless. You gaped whilst staring at the male. How could he look so perfect?
"Well, Wei, you can take a seat next to Y/N over in that corner."
Before you could protest, he was striding towards your desk where he sat down, not saying a word. Awkwardness filled the air around you but it didn't seem as though Wei noticed: his eyes stayed glued to the front of the room where the teacher was explaining something that you didn't care about.
Deciding it would be best for your grades to pay attention, you faced the front. However, you didn't forget to notice the glance that Wei gave you.
Paranoia. That's all you could feel as you packed up to go to your next class. Once you'd began to focus on the knowledge that your teacher was giving out, you couldn't help but feel Wei's blazing stare on you the whole time.
You were trying to tell yourself that it was in your imagination (why you would imagine someone staring at you for a whole hour, you didn't know) but it seemed real. It felt as though he was watching you like a hawk; it felt as though he was watching your every move.
Quickly walking out of the room, you rushed to your next lesson so that you didn't have to spend more time with the male who you were undoubtedly attracted to.
For the rest of the day, you couldn't get the image of him out of your mind. So, as you walked home in the torrential rain, you decided that you would introduce yourself to him the next morning. If he was ignorant or bitter, you could give up on the idea of falling for him. However, if you could befriend him, maybe -just maybe- you would learn to love him.
As soon as you got home, you finished off all of your homework before showering. The whole time you couldn't stop thinking about what to say to Wei. Never had you been so stressed over a guy and you genuinely didn't understand why you were acting this way yourself.
It was 10pm by the time you had washed up so you changed into some fuzzy, cosy, pale blue pyjamas. Normally, you would lie in bed on your phone whilst fangirling over your favourite bands until early hours of the next day. One reason for that was because you didn't care how tired you looked or how grumpy you acted at school- nobody cared anyway. The other reason was because you had no reason not to do it. Sleep is overrated.
Today was different. You had a reason to care about your appearance if you were going to befriend a striking boy. So you tightly pulled the white duvet over your shivering body and fell into a deep sleep.
The piercing ringing of your alarm startled you from your sleep at 7am. You could see it was a bright day outside as the sunlight seeped into the snug room. Perfect. The warm, radiant days always seemed to lighten up your mood.
Eagerly, you hopped out of bed and ran downstairs to quickly make some toast. Once you ate it, you brushed your teeth and then changed into your cute uniform.
"I'm going now! Bye." You shouted towards your parents as you put on your shoes and grabbed your bag.
It was only 7:30am but, instead of getting on the cramped school bus, you walked to school. It took 30 minutes but the fresh morning air made you feel refreshed and it cleared your mind of any worried thoughts.
By the time you reached the school, most people were already walking towards their classes so you did the same. A feeling of dread would usually fall upon you at the thought of sitting in a room with your form for 20 minutes. This time though, you were sat next to him.
When you opened the classroom door, nobody paid attention as they carried on laughing in their own small groups. Wei was sat in the corner seeming to be listening to music as his white headphones hung loosely from his ears. Why did he have to look so adorable?
He didn't seem to notice when you sat beside him as his head was hung down, eyes closed. Building up as much confidence as possible, you lightly tugged on his right earphone and his head snapped up in shock. As soon as he saw you, a smile grew upon his face.
"Hi. I'm Y/N." You extended your hand for him to shake and he gladly took it.
"I know." He chuckled and you pouted at your stupidity.
Of course he knew your name.
"Stop pouting! You look nicer with a smile." Wei beamed.
His words caused heat to rise up your neck and tint your cheeks a pale shade of pink.
"Aw you're blushing!" He pinched your cheeks and his hands were freezing against your hot skin.
"Yah! Stop it." Glaring at the male, you playfully punched his arm.
"Oh, so you're hitting me now are you?" He raised an eyebrow.
"Yes, yes I am." You hit his arm again causing you both to burst into laughter.
Just from your first conversation, you could tell that the two of you would get along well. He was the type of person you loved. Funny, charismatic and caring. The fact that he was captivating was just a bonus in it all.
For the next week, you both spent the school days and spare time together. Even in that short period, you could feel yourself falling for him. The amount of time you spent together made you sure that you knew him well enough. However, by the next week, you started to notice things. The smallest of things. That's when you realised just how much you knew him.
It was a Monday. Not only was it the worst day of the week because you had to go to school after a lazy weekend, but because you had P.E. The sun was blazing and you didn't feel like running around a field just to become sweaty. It's not like the subject benefited you in any way: any calories you burned, you put back on when eating dinner.
A loud knock snapped you out of your thoughts and you opened the door to let your crush in.
"Ready to go?" Wei questioned.
"Yeah. Let me just grab my bag."
Running into the kitchen, you picked up your bag and then followed Wei out of the door and to his car.
"I'm lucky my best friend drives. Now you can take me anywhere I want to go." Sticking out your tongue at the male, you joked about.
"Don't be thinking that, Y/N. This is only so I don't have to awkwardly show up at school on my own." He chuckled whilst getting into the driver's seat.
"Hmm, whatever makes you sleep at night. I know you just want to spend more time with me." A smirk formed on your lips as his eyes widened.
"N-No it's not. Anyway, do you want to go out tonight? I think we'll need to have some fun after today."
You nodded in reply before the two of you made plans to go to town. Even though it wasn't a date, you were happy to be going somewhere that wasn't just your house. For most of the nights last week, he had gone to your house so you could complete your homework together. Two brains is better than one after all.
After 30 minutes, form had already passed and you both walked as slow as possible towards the dreaded changing rooms. The smell of deodorant and perfume mixed with the smell of sweat and it never failed to make you feel faint and dizzy. Waving to Wei, you entered the female changing rooms and got ready as quickly as humanly possible. You had much more of a chance of being knocked out with the odour than an actual ball in the lesson.
Placing your uniform on the hanger quickly, you then left for the vibrant green field. It was a scenic and picturesque place as large trees surrounded the vast land. You'd much rather sit and enjoy the view than run around it.
"Right class, get a partner. We'll be doing football today. I want you to practice all of the skills you already know so we know what to build on from there." Your frustrating teacher yelled as though you were in a military camp.
Sungjun was suddenly in front of you and you snatched a football from the bag before going into a secluded corner of the field. The trees created a canopy and shaded you from glaring sun.
"Well, I don't know many skills when it comes to football so am I just supposed to kick the ball randomly all lesson?" You laughed.
"I guess. It's better than running around, right?"
You nodded and lightly kicked the ball to Wei. For the rest of the lesson, you kept exchanging the object whilst you talked and joked about different things. That was one thing you loved about him. No matter what you rambled on about (whether he liked it or not) he would listen carefully and appreciate what you had to say.
"That's the end of the lesson for today. Put the footballs back properly before you get changed." Your teacher shouted before walking back to her office.
Once you put the ball back in the bag, you and Wei began to walk towards the gates that led to the rest of the school. However, you felt someone push you from behind and you fell to the ground, scraping your knee in the process.
"That's so funny!" An immature boy in your class bellowed at his friend who had obviously pushed you.
Looking towards Wei, you could see how tense he had become as he fists and jaw were clenched tight.
"You think that's funny do you? Well let's see if you find this funny."
Before you could even stop your friend, he had punched both of the guys with so much force that they went flying away from him. Your eyes widened in shock. For his slender build, he had a lot of strength. Almost too much strength...
A stinging pain in your knee turned your attention away from him and to yourself. A small amount of blood was trickling down your leg from the cut they had caused. Sungjun seemed to notice your stressed state as he jogged towards you.
"What's wrong?" His chocolate brown eyes were wide as he searched you for any injuries.
His gaze soon landed on the red liquid that was covering your leg. You could see him visibly gulp as his eyes flickered with something you couldn't quite understand. The look in his eyes was something you had never seen before. It was almost...
Wei rapidly shook his head and stared at you with affection.
"Come on, let's get you to the nurse." He picked you up and carried your fragile body towards the office where your wound could be treated.
"Those guys are jerks." He glared ahead, clearly showing his anger.
"It's fine, Wei. They're just idiots who have nothing better to do." You smiled sadly at him whilst he turned to look at you.
"I still want to kill them for hurting you." His words were violent but his face was the opposite.
His expression was soft and warm which gave you a feeling of love and protection.
"We're here." He opened the door with one arm and still managed to hold you in his other.
Deciding not to question his strength at such a weird time, you stayed quiet and sat on the bed whilst the nurse examined your injury. After cleaning it and applying a plaster, the two of you went back to class and finished the day normally.
"I'll pick you up at 5:30." Wei stated as he dropped you off at your house.
Agreeing to the timing, you jumped out of the car and went inside of your house. It was the first time you would be going out with Wei in public so you decided to make an effort. It was also the first time that he would be seeing you in anything except from leggings and a jumper.
You got into the hot shower and washed your hair with your favourite scented shampoo. The water allowed you to relax as you thought about the day and how Wei had taken care of you.
Your thoughts then flicked to that look in his eyes. Of course there were people who hated blood- you were one of them- but his eyes showed so many emotions. They showed mostly fear.
Realising that you had spent a long time in the shower, you turned it off and then began to dry your hair. Eventually, it was done so you ran to your closet and picked out a pair of black skinny jeans and a white, flowing crop top. Simple but effective. You liked it. To finish off the look, you put on some natural makeup and your white converse.
You picked up your golden phone and answered it.
"I'm parked outside." Wei's soothing voice came through the speaker.
"I'll be out in a minute." You mumbled and hung up.
Leaving the house, you locked the door and then got inside of your best friend's car.
"Let's go!" He shouted enthusiastically as he began to drive towards the town centre.
It was starting to get dark when you finally arrived so you decided to shop inside to prevent you from getting a cold. The two of you wandered around shop after shop, buying multiple clothes and random things that you probably didn't even need or wouldn't use.
As you got onto the final stretch of the mall, you spotted a small restaurant which made your stomach rumble.
"Let's go eat." You took Wei's hand and excitedly ran towards the eating place.
Once you sat down, you ordered your food and drink but Sungjun refused and said that he wasn't hungry.
"Yah! Why are you not eating?" You sternly questioned.
In school, he never ate but he told you it was because he wasn't used to having lunch. It was quite believable: not everyone can eat at that time. However, your concern only grew as he didn't drink or eat anything the whole time that you sat in the stylish restaurant.
"I'm not hungry." He simply replied.
For the whole 20 minutes that you sat and ate, you didn't speak a word. Anger was all that you could feel at the thought of your friend not thinking of his health.
As soon as the meal was finished, you paid and left to go towards the car park. The freezing, bitter wind hit you as soon as you walked outside. That didn't bother you, though. Wei had agitated you so you walked ahead, not wanting to have a speech on how he was fine and didn't need to eat all of the time. That was stupid. He needed to eat.
You knew he was quite far behind but you still carried on speeding ahead with your arms crossed in front of your chest with your head down. If any random stranger looked at you, they would think you were a 6 year old sulking because their mother wouldn't buy them the teddy bear that they wanted.
Due to your ignorance to the surroundings, you didn't realise that you stepped into a busy road. A car's headlights illuminated the darkness that blanketed you and you felt like your feet were stuck to the ground. Just as it was about to come into contact with your hip, a strong arm snaked around your waist and pulled you backwards onto the pavement.
You turned to see him with a worried look on his face (as though he'd seen a ghost) but that wasn't what you were focused on. There was no way that he could have got to you in time from that distance by running. So, how did he do it?
"H-How did you get here that fast?" You voice wavered.
"I'm just that fast." He smiled triumphantly and you felt the fear in you wash away.
Smiling at him, you both proceeded towards the car park where you entered his sparkling vehicle.
"You can just drop me outside of your house. I want to walk home."
He nodded in reply. The car ride to his house was silent but it wasn't awkward. You could hear his soft humming to the music and it made you feel sleepy.
"Here we are." He pulled into the driveway and got out.
His house was similar to yours - slightly bigger - but still similar. It had large pillars that supported the white-painted building.
You thanked your friend before he told you how to get home. His house was only about a 20 minute walk from yours so you didn't mind. Walking away from him, you heard his front door close shut. However, a loud creaking noise soon echoed throughout the street and you turned on your heel to see him leaving his house again, a black hood covering his face.
Curiously, you silently followed behind him to see that he was walking further away from the busy streets and into the depths of the back alleyways. A shiver ran down your spine at the thoughts that whirled around in your head.
Wei suddenly took a sharp turn into a pitch-black alleyway and you hid behind the brick wall, waiting for any confirmation on the thoughts you were just having.
A minute passed by before a blood-curdling scream came from where he had gone. Fear ran through your veins as you stayed planted in your spot, hand cupped over your mouth. It felt as though the whole world stopped.
You wanted to run away right in that moment and lock yourself in your bedroom forever. You couldn't do that. If he was hurting someone, you had to stop him. There was no way you could let someone die due to your cowardice.
Taking a deep breath, you tip-toed around the corner and further into the heavy atmosphere that was filled with terror. You could see the silhouette of a tall figure and a small, petite one. Even though you were the most scared you had been in your life, you had to try something. You took one more large step towards them to see the most terrifying and insane sight in your life.
"Oh my god!" You shrieked in pure horror as the male's head snapped up towards you.
His white fangs glistened in the moonlight and red blood ran down his chin. His eyes were alarming and they seemed to warn you to move away. It seemed as though Wei didn't realise it was you until he stepped nearer. His eyes suddenly changed back to the affectionate ones you were used to. However, he still remained in the same state. He was still a vampire.
Running away from the scene that you had just witnessed, you felt tears stream down your face. How could you not know? You didn't really believe vampires actually existed. You always thought they were characters from the stories that were completely imaginary.
Your head suddenly bumped into a broad, hard chest and you apologised before looking up.
"Get away from me!" You screamed in panic at the male who had clearly used his speed as an advantage to frighten you.
"No! Y/N, listen I-" You cut him off.
"I don't want to hear it! You're a monster."
Too strong hands grabbed your shoulders to stop you from moving.
"Y/N, listen to me! I didn't tell you for a good reason." His voice was desperate so you tried to remain calm and let him explain.
"I didn't tell you because whenever I see you, my hunger goes away. When you were bleeding, I felt the need to drink it but then I looked towards you, that feeling washed away. You make me feel human. I wanted to be human, Y/N which meant not telling. I knew that you would act this way and I'd lose you and that can't happen. I can't lose you, Y/N. I love you!" Tears were flowing down his face like a river and you felt the need to wipe them away but you stopped yourself.
The words he said repeated in your mind over and over again. The fact that he loved you was unreal and you would usually feel delighted. However, you felt depressed. You couldn't be together. It didn't work like that.
"I love you, Wei. But you murder people. You kill." Your voice was shaking as you spoke.
"No, I don't. As soon as I drink from someone, I give them my blood which heals. Then I use compulsion to make them forget. I don't kill, Y/N, you have to believe me."
You looked into his eyes and could see nothing but honesty. He was telling the truth.
"Then, Y/N, will you be able to accept me. I can't change what I am. All I know is that you don't need to be scared of me. I would never hurt you."
You finally wiped the tears from his face and wound your arm around his neck so that your forehead was touching his.
"I know you wouldn't. So, how about this: we can try to make this work. I love you too much to leave you." A smile tugged on both of your lips.
"Yeah, all we can do it try."
