I really hate to burst your bubble but I’m neither Miley nor Hannah. Just a normal uh... Muggle?
He glanced over at her siblings and smiled softly, before looking back at Blaze. It didn’t really matter to him where they hung out - all that mattered was that he possibly cheered her up. “Shitty movies in a basement?” With a shit eating grin, Max slung the bag over his shoulder. “Sounds awesome.”
Shaking her head slightly, she led the way towards the basement flipping on a few lights. “Watch your step, these stairs are kind of old.” She laughed softly as she stepped towards the right into the movie room. Flipping on a light, she waved her hand. “Welcome to the movie room, Mister Dennison.” She flashed a small smile.
Smiling slightly, Max ducked his head shyly as he stepped inside. Her bad mood was clear, but he hoped that maybe he could cheer her up. Dani had let him take some of her rubbish movies, and he might have stolen some of the trick or treating candy… “I brought some shitty movies… If you wanna watch…” The teen awkwardly lifted his bag which contained the videos and candy.
Her younger brother and sister were sprawled out on the couch arguing over who was going to have the remote next and she rolled her eyes. Casting a glance back at Max, she offered the tiniest hint of a smile. “Oh man, haven’t you heard? Shitty movies are the best movies.” She glanced towards her siblings and then towards the staircase that led to the basement. “You don’t mind hanging out in some old grungy basement, do you?”
Max had been noticing a change in Blaze. She was quieter than usual, and that didn’t seem to be a good change. So he worked up the nerve to just go to her house and see if she was okay.
“Hey, I uh… I was just wondering if you wanted to hang out or something…”
Her hands were tucked away into her sleeves and she didn’t seem like her usual self. But, seeing Max on her doorstep was a change and it wasn’t something she minded. But, she just wished she was in a better mood. “Uh, sure... Come on in.” She stepped aside so he would have room to enter the house and she tugged her hoodie tighter to her body.
All she wanted to do was sit here and play the piano. October was an incredibly moody month for her and the rain and cold was something that irritated her the most. The sound of a knock at the front door caught her attention and she huffed slightly. “I’ll get it!” She called out before pulling the door open. “Max? What are you doing here?”
LIKE for a STARTER ?
And all she did was light the damn candle. Now, look what had happened. The floor was shaking and she was freaking out. ❝What the hell is going on?!❞ She yelled as if someone or anyone could hear her.
“Yeah, I think I saw a witch hat the other day… Can’t wait to see what she tries to force me into.” The teen rolled his eyes, but smiled fondly as he thought about his sister. She was a pain, but she was his pain. Raising his eyebrows in slight shock, having not expected her to respond to his blatant flirting, but they soon lowered and he grinned. “I think I can handle those old bats.”
“Siblings, they can be a serious pain but you still love ‘em at the end of the day.” A small smile and she’s tilting her head slightly. “Oh really? Well, we’ll just have to see about that on Halloween, won’t we?” She offered in a teasing manner.
“EXCUSE ME?what did you just say? ”
“I said YOUR SHOES are from TWO SEASONS ago.”
Suddenly feeling embarrassed, Max smiled awkwardly and looked down at his feet. He didn’t know why he’d done the impression, but it was done now. No turning back, Dennison. “I don’t think my sister is being one, but I bet she’ll be a witch… I’ve only ever been in it for the candy, to be honest.” Him and Dani had a system - if it had peanuts in it, Dani got it, if it was hard candy, then Max got it. He’d heard about the museum but had originally zoned out about it, brushing it off as another stupid Salem thing. But if Blaze wanted to go… “Yeah? Well if you go, I’ll be there.” Max smirked slightly, glancing at Blaze.
A small smile adorned her features and Blaze stared at him for a moment. He was actually kind of cute and the fact that he wasn’t a jerk made it ten times more easier. ❝Ah, a witch. The basic halloween costume for all girls.❞ She let out a soft laugh and shook her head raising a brow at his words. ❝Oh? Then, I guess you should be prepared for a visit from The Sanderson Sisters.❞ She smirked slightly and shook her head.
Shuddering slightly as he thought back to the matching costumes from Dani’s first few times trick or treating, Max grimaced. “It gets worse. My parents actively encourage the costumes… They’re all so Halloween crazy that they fit right in here.” Sanderson Sisters… That sounded right, he knew that they were like the town’s oldest evil or something. Honestly, he didn’t believe they even existed - or if they did, they weren’t witches. Witches weren’t real. “Well apparently we’ll be seeing a lot of them on Halloween.” Max put on a falsetto voice, impersonating his home room teacher. “All the little girls want to be a Sanderson Sister for Halloween, so look out! You’ll never know if the black flame candle’s been lit and the real sisters are out and about!”
Laughing loudly at his sudden falsetto voice, Blaze shook her head and glanced at him. ❝Tell me about it, my sister’s being Sarah or whatever her name is. It’s so annoying. The only good thing about Halloween is the candy honestly.❞ Raising a brow, she nodded at the mention of the black flame candle. ❝I heard about that, something about some creepy old house that used to be a museum. Kinda tempted to go to that place on Halloween if I get a chance.❞
“Try having an 8 year old sister, who not only makes me take her trick or treating every year, but makes me dress up too.” Max was going to refuse to take her this year. He’d let their parents deal with Dani. The teen wanted nothing to do with Halloween - it wasn’t even October and he was sick of the holiday. “Yeah, it pretty much is… And everyone here is obsessed with these witch sisters? They keep telling their story like it’s the second coming of Jesus or some crap.”
Shaking her head, Blaze could understand completely. ❝Yikes, I feel bad for you. I mean... Having to take a younger sibling trick or treating? That’s bad. But, having to dress up too? Even worse.❞ Pausing, she rose a brow and glanced at him. ❝You mean The Sanderson Sisters? Ugh, tell me about it. My mom is like... Obsessed with them or something. So stupid.❞
He shrugged and lightly kicked at the ground in front of him. “I guess it’s okay… If you’re a Halloween loving Salem citizen.” Max rolled his eyes. It was only half way through September and the entire town had gone Halloween crazy - and every single lesson had some mention of Halloween. Which had Max scoffing or generally ignoring it, and resulted in him being called upon and mocked.
Scoffing at the mention of Halloween, Blaze shook her head. ❝I’ve got a thirteen year old brother and a fifteen year old sister who force me to take them out every single year. Halloween is definitely not my cup of tea, minus the whole caramel apples thing.❞ She shrugged and glanced at him for a moment. ❝I don’t know what I was really expecting when I got forced to move to this crappy town. It’s practically Halloween all year ‘round.❞
