On the Road With InStyle: Lollapalooza Life

On the Road With InStyle: Lollapalooza Life

"A good pair of sunglasses is a staple for attending a music festival like Lollapalooza. I didn’t pay $80 to squint at my favorite bands from the crowd! That’s why, for my fifth year photographing the three-day fest, solid visibility in Chicago’s Grant Park was at the top of my Must-Have List. Enter TOMS. The one-for-one company sent its reps Whitney and Katie roving around the grounds to show off the brand’s new designs to editors and photographers, and I snapped up the chance to try on some new shades. Not only did I find the styles comfortable and durable, but they’re also for a good cause: Every time you purchase a pair, TOMS helps restore sight to someone by providing glasses or medical treatments. Learning about the positive efforts the company supports was definitely a feel-good moment—almost as much as putting on my new Lobombas ($139; toms.com) and watching Vampire Weekend squint-free.”

Out of Print – Books on shirts. Shirts on a mission.

This Fall we have teamed up with Out of Print to offer four different limited-edition totes that will be given away in August. For each tote we give, Out of Print will donate a book to Books for Africa. Tote-ally awesome, right? Well we asked our story-inspired friends at Out of Print to tell us the tall tale behind their mission.

Employee Journal: Dave/Coprodeli

Our team from TOMS left early on Mother’s Day to spend a week in Peru with our Giving Partner, Coprodeli.  We’d been prepped for the trip, knowing that our journey required only a desire to work, openness to experience and a willingness to promote change and to be changed.

We spent our week in the coastal region surrounding Lima and points South. We were struck both by the needs of the community and the formidable obstacles in their way.  Water came at a premium, building materials were improvised and land usage laws were both permissive and punitive.  The Peruvian Dream came with free land, but scant community infrastructure or support. What’s a family to do?
