            still feeling his heart POUNDING as a result of nothing but            running for what seemed like miles, chris could finally allow            himself to practically melt into the nearest possible chair. his            mind was fried, his thoughts were racing and no matter what he            couldn’t bring himself to just calm down. something was after            them — not someone, something. and all chris wanted was for            everything to just be okay. but he knew that couldn’t be, not now.

           countless amounts of emotions seemingly surged through           chris’ brain at all once: panic, shock and sheer disbelief at           what he’d just done. he was a monster, a murderer. it was all           his fault. but what else could he have done? he needed to save           ashley — he simply had to. and frankly, at this point, chris just           didn’t care about what happened to him so keeping his tone to a           minimum was something he just couldn’t do, even if he wanted to.           he killed his best friend to save another, and nothing could have           messed with his brain more. he was screwed, completely one           hundred percent screwed. he didn’t deserve anything but the worst.
