@mei-astrology I have green eyes and a warm skin tone, so olive green is a lovely colour for me.
I was a dyed red head for years, and my naturally brown hair has red under tones to it! So sort of right xD
That’s hilarious because those are my favourite colours to wear. My all time favourite jacket is olive green. Also olive green is pretty much my favourite colour over all. Closely followed by a mid-toned teal like in saltwater tears.
Nice intuition friend!
urban witch 101: house & home
hey, guys! so I don’t know if there is actually a demand for this, but I know that as a newly-minted urban witch, I have been wanting more informational resources about urban witchcraft and tips for practicing in a city setting, so I’m starting up this “series”, if you will, called urban witch 101. I’ll cover some of the things that I think are important and useful to urban witches, and the things that I have noticed in my own life.
this first part of the series is going to focus on your home base – your apartment, room, wherever it is that you live, because that’s probably going to be an important place in your practice, and it’s important that you get your good vibes going there!
i just moved to the city about a month ago, and here’s some “home base” tips I have for newly-urban witches, or new witches who live in the city.
- regular cleansing. cities are full of people, which is cool, and can provide some pretty cool energy for you and your practice, if you’re into that. but the sheer volume of energy means that it can get a little overwhelming today, so I would recommend making home cleansing a regular part of your witchy routine. I live over a nightclub, and like to cleanse about once a month or so, just to clear out any of the weird energy that gets built up from living in such a highly-trafficked space. you may want to do it less frequently or more frequently, depending on your living situation. if you’re just starting out, there are a billion posts out there that can give you some primers on how to cleanse; my personal favorite is sage, but make sure you open a window so your fire alarm doesn’t go off.
- protect yourself. like I said, cities have a lot of energy, and not all of it’s good. I’m not talking the practical “have a baseball bat/cast iron pan/blunt object of your choice to defend yourself from home invaders here”, for the record; I’m talking energy protection. there’s a lot of stuff swirling around from everyone who lives on your block and even in your apartment building, and you might not want all of it in your home. a bowl of salt placed by your door or protective stones like black tourmaline at the corners of your house are solid starters.
- fit your practice to your space. if you are like most city dwellers, your apartment isn’t very big, or you live with roommates and have a relatively small amount of space to yourself. (I feel you; my fiancee and my familiar and I live in a 250-square-foot studio.) and no matter how important your practice is to you, you’ve also got to fit it into that little apartment with the entire rest of your life. by all means, keep your altar space! but if you’re pressed for room, consider keeping it in a small, travel-friendly box or tin so you can take it out when you need it, or using the top of a flat surface that you might not get other use out of, like the top of a short bookshelf or something similar.
- make sure your home is a safe, calm place. as urban witches (and you know, as people in general) we’re often on the go – to work, to school, to pick up takeout, for yet another trip to the bookstore/metaphysical store/local coffee shop where you hang out on the weekends. at the end of the day, you want a calm place with good energy to return to. put up your creature comforts. make your bed in the mornings. leave your space feeling happy, clean, and full of the things that bring you comfort, and allows you to recharge your own energy when the day’s taken it out of you.
- if you need plants to say sane or aid in your practice, don’t be afraid to grow them. you have some options for growing things, even if you live in a tiny apartment. balconies, fire escapes, or windowsills can be the location of your tiny garden, or you can get a neat device that grows your plants inside for you, no sunlight required.
I’m planning on doing a few more installments of these, so if anyone has suggestions about topics they’d like to see, let me know! my inbox, and the post replies, are always open. happy witching!
Would it be possible to cast spells using a fidget cube? Like, give each side a correspondence and actions and things like that, and click the joystick or something to signal beginning and end of a spell?
Because I’m Extra™ I came up with a list of correspondences:
Joystick- begin and end a spell. Point it to direct a spell
Switch: on and off, light and dark, basically any opposites
Rolly thing: clockwise to promote counterclockwise to banish, cast a circle w this, anything with circles or clocks, little nub can be the hand
Ball and socket: movement, travel
Wheels (distance from joystick) Furthest: body Middle: mind Closest: environment ((Roll wheels left for negative and right for positive))
Worry stone: use as intended or associate with easing and calming
Buttons: Top left: earth Top right: fire Bottom left: water Bottom fright: wind Center: spirit
One crafty Finn turns cold and rusty scrap metal into elegant floral designs. He goes by the nickname FinnCrafted and this time he made a gorgeous rose. “The petals are made from sheet metal off an old sauna heater I found rusting away in the woods,” explains the artist. He used a torch to shape the flower and nothing but a wire wheel on a grinder to make the steel shine. (Source)
Amazing.
Holy shit!

Hi! I need some help, I've been delving into bind runes and I think they're absolutely beautiful in their simplicity. I wanted to ask if you could help me make a rune design so I could get it tattooed for my 19th birthday. I just recently got a valkyrie done on my shoulder and have a deep love for them. I wanted to know if they have a rune? And if not, is there one for strength or perseverance? Thank you so much. :)
Tattoos are really personal, and I feel like each of my bind runes has a piece of me in them in a way, and I don't really feel comfortable making one with the intention of it being a tattoo on someone else, however if you want something for strength, sometimes a single rune can be just as powerful, and I suggest getting Uruz.
Cleaning the house to go into the new year with a new outlook on things. Hopefully doing this full cleanse will help transition and leave this terrible year behind.
what color palette do you associate me with??
reply to this post and tell me?
attention people who use runes (esp. the elder fuþark):
if you work with or have done research on the Elder Fuþark runes, you may have noticed that there are lots of variations on the names. & i mean LOTS, e.g.:
there are a couple of reasons for this:
- HOWEVER, most actual runic inscriptions in the Elder Fuþark are actually in Proto-Norse, the intermediate stage between Proto-Indo-European and Old Norse. A lot of the discrepancies between the attested names & their names in other Germanic languages (i.e. Gothic and Old English) is due to this fact (Orðstírr has a good intro to Proto-Norse sounds especially re: runes)
- modern English is missing many of the sounds and letters that existed in early Germanic languages, so variant spellings are different ways of rendering them in our limited 26-letter alphabet
- many sources on runes come from magickal writings from many decades ago, and because language science is constantly evolving, so has our reconstruction of Proto-Germanic. thus, many of the names are based on outdated reconstructions.
- most magickal writings on runes are not written by historical linguists who study ancient Germanic languages
luckily i regularly study & use Proto-Germanic, & based on our most recent & accurate reconstructions, the names for the Elder Fuþark would have probably taken the following forms (text in /slashes/ is IPA phonemic transcription; where names are different, this is due to differring names in the different attested langauges, or variation within Proto-Germanic dialects):
ᚠ *fehu /ɸexu/ “wealth, cattle”
ᚢ *ūruz /uːruz/ “aurochs”
ᚦ *þurisaz /θurisɑz/ “giant, monster” OR *þurnuz /θurnuz/ “thorn”
ᚨ *ansuz /ɑnsuz/ “deity, mouth”
ᚱ *raidō /rɑi̯ðɔː/ “journey”
ᚲ *kēnaz /keːnɑz/ “torch” OR *kauną /kɑu̯nɑ̃/ “ulcer”
ᚷ *gebō /ɣeβɔː/ “gift”
ᚹ *wunjō /wunjɔː/ “joy”
ᚺ *haglaz /xɑɣlɑz/ “hail(storm)”
ᚾ *naudiz /nɑu̯ðiz/ “need, distress, force”
ᛁ *īsaz /iːsɑz/ “ice”
ᛃ *jērą /jɛːrɑ̃/ “year”
ᛇ *ēhaz /eːxɑz/ < *īhwaz /iːxʷɑz/ OR *īwaz /iːwɑz/ “yew”
ᛈ *perþō /perθɔː/ “?pear-tree, ??game-box (uncertain)”
ᛉ *elhaz /elxɑz/ OR *algiz /ɑlɣiz/ “elk”
ᛊ *sōwulą /sɔːwulɑ̃/ OR *sōwilą /sɔːwilɑ̃/ “sun”
ᛏ *tīwaz /tiːwɑz/ “the god *Tīwaz (Norse Týr, Anglo-Saxon Tíw > Tue[sday])”
ᛒ *berkaną /berkɑnɑ̃/ “birch”
ᛖ *ehwaz /exʷɑz/ “horse”
ᛗ *mannaz /mɑnnɑz/ “human, person”
ᛚ *laguz /lɑɣuz/ “water, sea, ocean”
ᛜ *ingwaz /iŋʷgʷɑz/ “the god *Frawjaz (Norse Freyr, Anglo-Saxon Fréa)”
ᛞ *dagaz /dɑɣɑz/ “day”
ᛟ *ōþalą /ɔːθɑlɑ̃/ OR *ōþilą /ɔːθilɑ̃/ “ancestral home”
if you would like more in-depth explanations for each of these, HERE is a good source (where we differ, i’d note that this source leans heavily on the Norse variants because our oldest attested uses come from Proto-Norse)
I'm ALL ABOUT the love languages actually! I'm a gift-giver and he's a touch person, but my touching doesn't seem to help, nor does being told, nor does gifts, nor does quality time........ it's all very frustrating haha
Awwww hahah yeah. I'm sorry friend hopefully it comes through! Best of luck!
