The Tumblr Research Visualization Tool is coming along swimmingly.
Get to your followers, messages, and drafts from the profile screen
In the new 3.6 update of Tumblr for iOS, just tap the “Manburger” button on the profile screen for quick access to your blog’s messages, followers, and drafts.
Tumblr also refers to the “Manburger” user menu icon as "the little dude with three lines." Tapping this icon also lets to change your blog appearance.
I’ve been calling it “the icon of the person running past you in a hurry”
A clock that writes the time.
This is so unnecessary I’ll take 20

A revised network graph from this year's research.
Since we’re talking numbers, we should mention that we asked Tumblr analytics firm Union Metrics to tell us just how big the fandom was on The Day of The Doctor…
And the answer came back in a single sentence:
Because of you, Saturday, November 23, 2013, The Day of The Doctor, was the biggest television event they’d ever seen on Tumblr.
5.0 million posts 4.9 million reblogs 3.1 million likes 1.0 million contributors
It was bigger than the VMAs, the Super Bowl, and the Grammys…
…combined.
We’ve always said that the Doctor Who fandom on Tumblr was bigger on the inside. Now we all have a better idea of just how big that inside is.
And what’s amazing is we’re still growing.
Congrats, Whovians.
We talk so much about data, but it's the opaque social behaviors that are really the most interesting.
Everyone, I’m elated to tell you that Tumblr will be joining Yahoo.
Before touching on how awesome this is, let me try to allay any concerns: We’re not turning purple. Our headquarters isn’t moving. Our team isn’t changing. Our roadmap isn’t changing. And our mission – to empower creators to...

Joining in on the unanimous fashion boner that Baz Luhrmann’s The Great Gatsby has garnered, here’s Menswear Dog’s take on the opulent classic.
The movie itself is more style than substance but that’s perfect for us because we’re not a movie blog. Baz Luhrmann goes over-the-top decadent in this rendition, but makes sure to pay attention to all the little details that make fashion bloggers go gaga. From collar pins to pattern-mixing to masterfully tailored 3-piece rigs; this is less a movie and more a moving mood board for the roaring twenties…and we’re ok with that. It opened nationwide this weekend so check it out.
“It makes me sad because I’ve never seen such – such beautiful shirts before.” The Great Gatsby, Chapter 5
Now this is advertising on Tumblr strategically.
With the pressure for advertisers to enter Tumblr with culturally-significant markers that reflect the community (eg., image macros), we see misinformed attempts like this Home Depot ad that not only don't make sense but have nothing to do with the brand – besides creating visibility of the company's logo – in the first place.

"Consuming content" is such a poor way of describing how individuals use Tumblr. It completely disregards how people use the platform in their everyday lives (evidence from what I'm seeing in my ethnographic research): they post and reblog in the moment, and they view the same way, by scrolling through endless amounts of media and text. Tumblr thrives on information overload, but nobody minds, because everyone knows everyone else isn't paying attention to everything.
Two Sides of Tumblr
omg this took forever but i’m so glad to be done. i don’t even know what to say about this ok but click to enlarge
I think this accurately sums up the extremes of Tumblr, but most users are probably more like one or two from each side combined.
