Stuff kids on tumblr better relearn

1. You are responsible for your own media experience.

2. There is such a thing as a healthy level of avoidance towards topics that make you feel unwell or even (in a real-life clinical definition of the term) trigger you - but you are the one to actively take care of what you view.

3. Avoiding does not mean policing others.

4. You have no right to tell artists to censor themselves - you may criticize what others do, you may dislike it, that’s fine - but actively asking for censorship when you could easily unfollow or block a person just makes you look incompetent in your use of the internet.

5. Do not give people on tumblr or /any/ website the responsibility for your emotional well-being. Because these people do not even know you so no, you have no right to ask them to take care of you.

6. Content creators are not your parents and owe you nothing, not even a breakdown on why their content isn’t problematic. You don’t get to demand a dissertation denouncing any and everything unhealthy in a piece you don’t like. Move on.

7. Tagging is a nicety but not an obligation. You can message people, politely, and ask them to tag things, and many people will, but understand that it’s their blog and they aren’t obliged to say yes. Unfollow and block when you need to. Circling back to number 1, you are responsible for curating your own experience.

8. Don’t be a jerk. Remember at the end of the day, there are actual living, breathing people behind each screen name. Don’t say anything you wouldn’t say to someone’s face in real life.

I cannot stress enough how important it is to remember this.

I think it's important to remember, as a rule of thumb, if you take advantage of a social service, it actually makes it easier for other people who need that service to access it. Most of the time, when these services get cut, it's because politicians will look at usage and say "see, no one is really using this thing, we can afford to trim the budget for food stamps by at least half". Whereas if you decide to step up and use these programs, even if you feel like you "don't really need it", at bare minimum it's another data point advocates can use to say "hey, look, people are using this thing, this is an important service we are providing, do not cut our funding".

Also, this is kind of a separate but related issue: don't wait until you're literally in debt with no food in the fridge and rent due in a week to look for help. You'd be surprised how many programs are at your disposal. Hell, I just found out to qualify for low-income housing assistance, you only need to make 80% less than the state's median income. (Spoiler: we make waaaay less than 80%.)

Stop thinking of yourself as temporarily embarrassed middle-class. If you're poor, you're poor. Check online, check your local library, get some help. Don't wait until you're on death's door to learn this stuff.

whenever you express disgust and horror at something happening in the world or something horrific that someone has done, you always get people coming out of the woodwork to be like "omg how are y'all surprised by this? i would never feel shocked and betrayed because i have always known better" and it's just like no i was not shocked by it but i do not have to be surprised by something to be disgusted by it. especially when it's something like FUCKING GENOCIDE. people doing genocide is still horrible even if you see it coming and even if they have been in the process of doing genocide for decades and are only the latest in a long line of genocide-doers. expressing horror at horrific things does not indicate naivete and NOT expressing horror because you "know better than to expect any different" does not somehow make you more enlightened. y'all are so fucking performatively desensitized and irony poisoned and literally what the fuck does that accomplish, actually, for anyone aside from yourself and your own performance of intellectual and moral superiority on tumblr dot com

I kept saying most of the majority of those Israelis who died on October 7th were NOT civilians, and that Hamas mainly targeted militants and bases (because if the opposite were true, the names of those victims would’ve been released a long time ago with an entire campaign behind it)

And now Israel published the list one month later, in the smallest font possible. Going through the list, they’re mostly soldiers, sergeants, majors etc…

The list:

Anonymous asked:

to your audiobook anon: scribd has now been renamed as everand (scribd the platform still exists, but it’s mainly for documents while everand is for ebooks & audiobooks) and subscribing to one gives you access to both platforms. from my experience it has a pretty extensive audiobook selection too and is my preferred alternative to audible!

for anon!!! thank you!!!

i don't want to see any white people ever again say how china, the middle east and many others asian countries are censored and that people there have no rights, don't you dare to make fun of north korea when your president wants jail for people who deny the state of isr*el, when you can't even walk around with a kufiya without being approached by the police and being told to leave, when social medias censor your post and shadow ban whoever even mentions palestine
