I can’t remember if I updated with his name but since someone suggested Vincent (and that’s one of my favourite names) I decided to call him Vinnie. He’s not keen on staying still as seen above.

you should name him Alistair! He looks like an Alistair :) or Vincent! or maybe Leslie :))

Haha, those are all excellent names! I like Vincent! Hmm…Florence and Nightjar were also suggested!

He’s a little stress-y and more angry, heh. Anyone got good name suggestions? I haven’t thought of one yet (also a little apprehensive to get attached yet... :( )

RIP Dogberry

Dogberry swam up the rainbow river awhile ago. I think it was the stress of moving back and forth with the tank leaks just got too much for him. Gonna post a picture of his successor in a few minutes. The tank just looked so empty with just Toozle in it.

So, even though I tested the tank before setting up and cycling and putting dogberry in it...it still sprung a leak within the first day of his move. I’ve resealed it, I’m hoping it works but I’ve never done it before. And it looks like crap but I just want it to be watertight. Ugh.

I don’t know if this is known, but there is now a Trans Crisis toll free hotline in Canada. I just saw this poster at my university.

The phone number is:

1-877-330-6366

Just one additional detail —

The line is not ALWAYS available, so you may want to check out their website, because there’s always a note displaying how many counselors are available at that time.

That's not the point. The point is that people are genuinely excited and happy to own a fish and sometimes a 1 or 2 gallon tank is all they can afford. They're trying to get into tumblr's fish community but "fishblr" is SO toxic to anyone who doesn't have a 20+ gallon tank that it's impossible. Some people just don't have the means to provide their pets with absolutely everything they could ever need, but that doesn't mean they love them less and fishblr is just plain cruel to them.

If someone doesn’t have the means to provide their pets with everything they need then they shouldn’t buy pets! If you can’t afford what your pet needs then you should wait until you do or you will be responsible for the animal’s suffering.

And if someone submits a photo of an obviously unhealthy betta to our inbox proclaiming how healthy it is and telling everyone else that a tiny tank is fine and encouraging them to do the same, we will definitely correct them. I was not cruel in my response nor was I ever implying the owner doesn’t love their bettas. It’s just that loving doesn’t equal proper care and won’t keep your betta healthy. Clean, warm water does.

I’ve never seen anyone on fishblr be “toxic” in their advice, just correcting improper husbandry.

Reblogged mostly for this: “…loving doesn’t equal proper care…”

Hey fishblr, help me out. My crayfish tank is infested with something and no matter what ive done, including completely taking the tank apart and rising the sand, they’re still here. Does anyone know what these are and how to get rid of them?

Freshwater copepods?? I’m not really sure! Anyone else know?

Yep! Copepods! I love them personally. I have a planted jar special for a colony. They’re not harmful and some fish will eat them but they can be really annoying in large quantities.

One week into the rescape. Starting to feel better about how it will fill in. Will probably put the discus back in in a couple weeks, once I’m able to stop messing around with it.
