the thing about madoka magica is that it has the vibe of something that would be super overrated by annoying people who have never actually experienced the object of its homage in earnest, but no, is literally just an extremely good magical girl show with dark elements. it just keeps showing its hand over and over again, but it has so much to offer on the other side of its misdirections. i saw it when i was a teenager and i think it might have transed my gender at the time
the part where you're supposed to get hooked isn't episode 3, its the first time they enter a labyrinth and the fucking medium changes. it's really obviously good from beginning to end, there's no trick. it crashes headfirst back into its source material in the most beautiful way possible at the end.

You'll be walking into a store and John and Jane are there arguing over which colour tie John should wear. Or they're in a restaurant and Jane is describing her preferences on seafood. Yeah they could be doing the cool Shepard protagonist stuff but consider: in a non-Reaper universe, they would be friends who hang out
