just consider…Jason’s whole foundation as a character was built on the fact that he was abandoned by his mother when he was two…which is why he’s a rule follower and keeps promises; he never wants people to feel like how he did…and when he came to camp, he literally describes as people seeing him as a “prince in waiting,” and the little ways he tried to rebel (trying to change tradition, joining the worst cohort, taking the least glamorous missions, making friends with the “least popular kids”) he was still thoughtful about…like he talks about how even when he tried to rebel, he considered both sides before taking a stand, and “he had made praetor anyway,” like it wasn’t something he was seeking out, his thoughts were never heard because they were considered strange
And when he went to Camp Halfblood, he ends up with a girlfriend who won’t let him talk about his old life anyway without feeling guilty (Reyna and he were best friends) and he had little to no agency in their relationship whatsoever (his first thoughts about piper when he’s gathering his bearings is “didn’t want to mess with her head anymore”), was stifled when he talked to about things he was intersted in (Piper actually does not care when he starts talking about the Pillars of Hercules, saying ‘wow, hanging out with Annabeth has turned Jason into a brainiac’ when for the rest of the series, Jason is spouting intelligent facts and Leo straight up refers to him as “Professor Grace” to tease him), Mellie is angry at him because Piper never delved into the specifics of their breakup with her, and he just accepts it; he accepts that he’s going to die by Caligula’s hands because he’s not letting Piper do it (she goes “I might’ve done the same thing”), neither one of his best friends attend his funeral, he never gets to see his sister again, he never gets to visit Thalia’s tree in canon, Piper’s the one that has the last conversation with Reyna in BOO
Annabeth says that Jason always rubbed her the wrong way because he’s “too perfect,” and Hazel is uncomfortable with him too, but Jason’s first thoughts are to ask how her mist practice is going and he’s sure she’s going to get it (he’s so confident in how he says it that she’s surprised) and Jason tries to get to know Nico before the Cupid fiasco goes down (Hazel had to give Frank a look that he reads as, “Nico needs to work on his social skills”)
And the boy dies, without his friends, buried as a roman even though he gets no resolutoin with them (you would even think Reyna and he would have a conversation in HOH because of the scepter but they don’t)
Like he’s a sweet, selfless boy who always tried to do what was right, weighed both sides even when the issues bothered him, and his issue was that he never had agency for himself because people only saw the son of Jupiter title and went with that, and he’s so used to protecting everyone else that he has a hard time letting others protect him (his struggle in MOA) and even tried to recreate the memories Piper loved so much at the end of BOO, then he never got agency in his relationship with Piper, he never got to see his best friend again, and they both left him, and everyone just decided to give him a roman funeral
