Congratulations to this year's recipients of the Theodore U. Horger Award for the 2022-2023 academic year. Margaret Mancusi-Ungaro '24 - Architecture ____________ The Theodore U. Horger award recognizes dedication and excellence in studio art, architecture, design and art history. Theodore U. Horger (known as Ted) graduated from Lehigh University with a bachelor of science degree in engineering mechanics in 1961 and was truly a renaissance man. His grounding was in the sciences, having received his Bachelor of Science degree in engineering mechanics from Lehigh in 1961, a Masters in the same major from New York University in 1963, and after working at Bell Labs, the research arm of AT&T, followed by a two year stint in the Peace Corps in Chile. Notwithstanding his educational and work background in engineering, he was devoted to the arts in all of its forms---music, theatre, dance and visual arts. The establishment of two permanent endowment funds from his estate: the Theodore U. Horger '61 Visual & Performing Arts Scholarship Fund and the Theodore U. Horger '61 Artist-in-Residence Fund in the Performing & Visual Arts is a most fitting and perpetual memorial of Ted's love for Lehigh and the visual and performing arts. #lehighuniversity #lehighaad #art #architecture #design #congratulations (at Lehigh University Art, Architecture and Design) https://www.instagram.com/p/CpBJiNIuve8/?igshid=NGJjMDIxMWI=

Prof. Masi's Graphic Design III class spent an afternoon down on lower campus recently in the Wilbur Powerhouse learning more about some of the great tools & machines that are available for them to use in their design work. Brian Slocum, managing director of Wilbur Powerhouse and Design Labs, shows students the vinyl cutter that can digitally cut vinyl and can then be applied with a hot press on walls, windows, shirts and hats. cool, huh. #lehighuniversity #art #architecture #design #vinylcutter #vinyl (at Wilbur Powerhouse) https://www.instagram.com/p/Co5jCthu7Pv/?igshid=NGJjMDIxMWI=

Did you happen to catch these designs while traveling across the Hill to Hill Bridge in Bethlehem this November? Students in Prof. Attie's class, Horger Artist-in-Residence and Visiting Assistant Professor of Art for this fall, created two billboard images that ended up on display on the large digital billboards adjacent to the Hill to Hill Bridge. One of the billboard designs commemorates the Bethlehem Steelworkers' strike that happened on March 25, 1941 to fight for union rights. #lehighu #art #architecture #design #digitaldisplay #billboards (at Lehigh University Art, Architecture and Design) https://www.instagram.com/p/Clo21RKOoB6/?igshid=NGJjMDIxMWI=
