LIS Mental Health Week 2016

So, about a year ago, I saw this blog post by Cecily Walker calling on libraryland to hold a mental health week to encourage conversations about how mental health affects library workers.

We are making it happen. So, mark your calendar for the week of January 18. If you want to post to your blog, talk about it on your podcast, or if you host a Twitter chat, think about how to engage library folks in conversation about mental health.

In the meantime, feel free to add to the resource list here: http://tiny.cc/LISmentalhealth, and contact me or Cecily with any questions or ideas.

Librarians with personal commitment, a “code,” do not play follow the leader. They do not take orders as hacks, apologists, or nitpickers. Their responsibility is not to any power structure at all, but to the patron and to the profession. True professionalism implies evolution, if not revolution; those who “profess” a calling have certain goals and standards for improving existence, which necessarily means moving, shaking, transforming it.
